90cm dish and motor?
Hi guys and gals...I'm picking up a 90cm dish and motor on Monday and was wondering which type of LNB I should get for it... (I will be using this new stuff with SV-8000hd +iHub+A-1 board) right now using 2 fixed 500's (110,119,91) with a dp34 switch... trying to get a little more mobile, want to get from 61.5 to
129 and everything in between. if there are any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it... right now Invacom QPH-031 seems to be what I'm leaning towards. And if I get this LNB, that does both circular and linear bands, would I still have to use a switch? sorry, I know this is a long read, but, I would really like to get this right the first time. (not a big fan of roof-tops in the Florida heat)
and yes, I'm in the Orlando/Daytona beach area, if that makes a difference

Re: 90cm dish and motor?
yes, that is the best LNB for your application.....yes you need a switch to switch between the linear and circular ports.....the switch needs to be located after the motor.....
receiver > motor > switch > LNB
two wires from the switch to the LNB.....one to a linear port and one to a circular port.....

Re: 90cm dish and motor?
wow...that was fast, thanks for the input, I never would have gotten the connection order right. In this case would I scan each bird twice? once for port 1 circ and once for port 2 linear?

no....a satellite is either linear OR circular, not both....you need to select the proper port in your antenna settings.....if your setting up a circular satellite then you need to select whichever port on the switch you have the circular port connected to....if your setting up a linear satellite you need to select a different port, where you have the linear connected to....

I would go with a 1 Meter dish if possible, but a 90cm should do fine.
Yes, get the Invacom Quad if you want to get both Linear and Circular LNB's and a Chieta Heavy Duty 4x1 switch.
I have this LNB and it works very well.
The Chieta HD switch is as bullet proof and as dependable as they get and they are inexpensive.
I would also recommend the Powertech DG-280 Motor
Steel internal gears, separate buttons for manual East/West dish navigation, 160 degree positioning, no problems with a stuck dish, no problems with the dish moving to the wrong sat, etc...which is a huge plus if your dish is on the roof.
I haven't had to touch this motor once in the year that I've had it. Can't say the same for other motors that I've had.
Get the Invacom Quad, the Chieta HD 4x1 and the DG-280 motor along with a 90cm or bigger dish and you'll have a great setup.

No, you just need to configure your STB to match your hardware.
If you have the Circular output of your LNB connected to the #1 input of your 4x1 switch, then you set your Circular sats such as 61.5, 110, 119, 129 to LNB1 and scan.
If you have the Linear output of your LNB connected to the #2 input of your 4x1 switch, then you set your Linear sats such as 97w and 123w to LNB 2 and scan.
Configure your Antenna Settings on your LNB to match your Hardware Setup for each sat, scan and then once you select a channel, the motor will move your dish to that sat.
Another good setup is to have a dedicated dish for 110/119 and a motorized setup for all other sats.
You can combine the two dishes with a 22KHz switch.

Re: 90cm dish and motor?
so here's a stretch...if i have a DP twin lnb with built in sw21 switch, could i run one coax
from the DP to port 1 on a 4x1 switch(stationary 110 & 119) right now, I'm using 2 single dp's, 1 coax from DP to port 2 on 4x1 switch(stationary 91) and 1 coax to port 3 (circular) and port 4 (linear) for the motor ? I have never used my DP with the built in switch before, but, if it could free-up a port to keep me from buying another switch that would be awesome... In theory I think it should work, but my "theories" don't always pan out in real life. thanks again -Pete (mookapyro)

Re: 90cm dish and motor?
Only a Legacy Twin will have a built in sw42 switch. A DP Twin has a built in DiSEqC Switch. If you were to use either one of these LNBs then you cannot feed them into another DiSEQc Switch externally.
You can go with one cable directly from a DP Twin to the receiver and you will have 119 on Port 1 and 110 on Port 2. Likewise if it is a Legacy Twin you can go directly with one cable to the receiver and SW42 LNB1 will carry 119 and sw42 LNB2 will carry 110.

Re: 90cm dish and motor?
okay guys...last question. you have been so helpful, thank-you again.
I have decided on the QPH-031 invacom LNB and the Powertech DG-280 Motor
as for the dish, I pretty much have 2 choices.
76cm Winegard offset(33")
90cm generic offset (36") made of same material with comparable wind load
I've always heard bigger is better when it comes to dish size, but I also hear great things about Winegard dishes . Welcoming all suggestions and opinions, thanks -Mook

Re: 90cm dish and motor?
Buy as BIG a dish as you are able to afford and hve room for. Bigger is better and make sure you secure it really well, those larger dishes can really catch some wind.
