Re: fibre optic lnb
Fibre Optic LNB now available.
April 20, 2009
Global Invacom have now made available their Fibre MDU range.
Rather than using the conventional copper coax from the LNB, this system uses fibre optic.
The advantages include:-
Shorter install time and less complex.
Very long cable runs possible
A single 3mm armoured fibre cable can supply up to 32 multiswitches or receivers.
Current availability includes:
Fibre Optic LNB
Quad Fibre GTU
Quattro Fibre GTU
Twin Fibre GTU
various opical splitters
Pre made fibre cables from 1m to 200m lengths.
Attenuation of fibre runs is reported as 0.03dB per 100m, compared to approx 32dB for standard satellite grade co

Re: fibre optic lnb
now, it looks cool...but whats the price tag on a lnb like that ? My $5 lnb's pull in 95/95, quite fine for a heavy rain or thick snow.

Re: fibre optic lnb
i dont really see the point in this.....
i get 90+Q on most sats right now.....the only advantage would be if your dish is located a VERY long way from your receiver, like 200-300+ feet.....
fiber cable is also not as durable as coax, it can break easily, and if it does you cant fix it unless you have the VERY expensive tools and knowledge to put ends on it.....
you would also need a transceiver at your receiver to convert from fiber to coax which would also be very expensive.....
i dont foresee a very big market for this product.....

Re: fibre optic lnb
I think maybe the concentration would be for apartment communities,
switches and the long runs cuz the line loss is infinitively low. Maybe
not to practical but it is a neat LNB (package).

Re: fibre optic lnb
There was an extensive article in TeleSatellite magazine a few months ago, it was yet to be released at that time, but from what the article said the idea had nothing to do with preventing cable loss, but rather many other things that can be done far beyond diseqc data control, it was all about bandwidth and sending lots of lnb control data for future features. You can go to google and type in 'TeleSatellite' and go to their web site and download the complete magazines for the past year and this year.
A new issue came out a little while back, it's the worlds largest magazine dedicated to FTA. You will see a lot of stuff a few months before you will hear about here. Have fun.

Re: fibre optic lnb
Thought it was a little expensive too. Just thought I'd mention it. Mine is a short run and my lnbs are still running good after 4-5 years.

Re: fibre optic lnb
About a week or ten days ago, one of this sites sponsor (Hypermegasat), alluded to this. Appears to be neat with local leds for sat finding (3, I believe) and a 0.1 noise lost. That is pretty impressive. Wonder if those 20-24" dish would work for TRUE FTA with this LNB.
Maybe one of our Mods could try and let us know (maybe get a freebee?).

Re: fibre optic lnb
That looks like one hell of a LNB. I cannot see many people paying that much. But after sometime it should come down in price.
