Dish, LNB And Switch Info
C/P
all,
There are lot of misinfo floating arround, so I take some time to do a summary of DN lnbf/switch.
LNBF
1. Legacy:
a. single: called single legacy, one output.
b. dual: called dual legacy, 2 outputs.
c. twin: big fat lnbf, 2 outputs, has 2 SW21 switch built-in...****nnot use with FTA
d. quad: big fat lnbf, 4 outputs, has 4 SW 21 switch built-in.
2: DishPro...great for FTA and DP receivers
a. single: called single DishPro, one ouput.
b. dual: called dual DishPro, 2 outputs.
c. twin: big fat lnbf, 2 outputs, has 2 independent Diseqc switch built-in
d. quad: big fat lnbf, 4 outputs, has 4 independent Diseqc switch built-in
Remember..
single LNB...receives ONLY 1 satellite signal and has 1 output to ONLY 1 receiver
Dual............ receives ONLY 1 satellite signal but has 2 outputs for 2 receivers
TWIN....has built in switches..receives 2 sats AND has 2 outputs for 2 receivers
Quad... same as Twin but has 4 outputs for 4 receivers
Many people get Dual and Twin confused, so there are pics of each attached..they happen to be Dish Pro, but Legacy look similiar except for the DP logo..
Switch
1. Diseqc: 2 versions: 1.0 and 2.0. People having problem with 2.0 version
a. 2 ways: 2 inputs, one output. Switch up to 2 lnbfs....OK for FTA
b. 4 ways: 4 inputs, one output. Switch up to 4 lnbfs....best for FTA
2. 22khz switch: 2 inputs, one output. Switch up to 2 lnbfs.
3. 0/12v switch: 2 inputs, one output. Switch up to 2 lnbfs. (Note: 0/12v switch needs to be installed close to the receiver, therefore 2 cables has be run into your house)
4. There is no such thing as Diseqc 1.2 or 1.3 switch. The 1.2 and 1.3 (aka USALS) are for motorizing Diseqc h-h mount.
5. DP34. 3 inputs, 4 outputs. Can be used to combine a 2nd (61W or 148W)dish with DP twin or quad, so receiver will get signal from 3 sats.
Switch does not work well
1. SW21...not suggested with FTA's
2. Diseqc 2.0 version (either 2 ways or 4 ways).
Dish 500
1. with 2 separate legacy single or dual lnbfs.
2. with legacy twin or quads lnbf, no good.
3. with DishPro twin or quads lnbf, good. Need to use modified transponder list.
Setup:
1. Dish 500 with legacy single/dual lnbfs: use with any working switch stated above to switch between lnbfs. 2nd or 3rd dish can be added using Diseqc 4 ways.
2. Dish 500 with legacy twin/quads lnbf: replace the lnbf with single/dual lnbfs or DishPro twin/quads.
3. Dish 500 with DishPro twin/quads lnbf: good, controlled by Diseqc command using modified transponder list. 2nd dish can be added using DP34 switch.

Re: Dish, LNB And Switch Info
Thx Grass....that was really a good summary of things....
I have a setup like this:
Dish 500 (Port 1) DP Twin-2 for 119 and 110
Dish 300 (Port 2) DP Dual-2 for 148
Connected to a DP-21 Switch
From Viewsat's setup I was able to scan all channels of 148 (Echostar 1,2), but i dont see any from 110 (Echostar 8,10) and see only a few from 119 (Echostar 7).
Are you suggesting that DP-21 is not ideal for this kind of a setup?
If so, what would be the best Switch to replace the DP-21? Diseqc 4X1?
If this is ok, what changes do i need to make in my Viewsat to be able to get all channels?
Thx Again.

Re: Dish, LNB And Switch Info
I've been to 3 different forums including this one. This one by far the most informative, easy to understand forum so far. You can't put FTA related issues in plain English any better than this. The others forums that I've been to, all the informations flew over my head, even in the newbie section.
Thanks for your dedications. This forum makes FTA issues very easy for newbies like myself.

Re: Dish, LNB And Switch Info
Hi Grass Thanks: I have a Wave Frontier Toroidal T-90, 38" dish with 4 -M20R reversed dual LNB's. Trying to set to 4 sats 82,91,110,and119 to factory dish spec's for dish and LNB's. Running threw 1 -4X1 2041 Chieta DISqec switch by rg6 cable to my new only Viewsat 9000HD V2 receiver. I`ve had help loading the v1007 factory file and sat bin files with the version 2 loader. Also help with the Antenna setup but get short pulse signal strength and no quality. Tried changing Azimuth and elivation quite a bit to no success. Could you give me a clue to where or what i may have done wrong or what i may try to get a signal to at least try and fine tune from there. Thank You smithelmet

Re: Dish, LNB And Switch Info
Dear Grasshopper; I love you.You can borrow my Ol'Lady for 1 hour.
My nephew and I were just talking about this topic(he want bev since he saw my stuff), and we were havin hell using a old non Dishpro unit. You shoulda seen us up on his roof(I'm 45yo)sliding into each other, with a mini dvd player plugged into a Coolsat 4000, cords and coax's everywhere! Now we know why.
You are truly wise and righteous.

Re: Dish, LNB And Switch Info
I have 2 Dish 500 sattelites. One has a Twin LNB that is being used for 110,119. The other one has a dual lnb but is not being used. How can I use this to get echostar 3(61.5). What kind of switch should I use to connect this to my box (CaptiveWorks 600 Premium)? Thanks!

Re: Dish, LNB And Switch Info
This is an excellent thread for understanding switches and lnb's, I have referred to it many times.
