Can C band satellites be use...?
Hi,
I have some a question regarding C band. Can I connect a FTA receiver to a C band satellite? Can I use a DTV dish to test DN? Or can it only be DN dish? What is Bev? I have read and seen it a lot, but I dont know what it is.
The reason I ask about C band, is because I have one in my back yard that hasn't been use in a long time. And I heard there are a lot of free channels with it. Not the good and excelent channels that one could get with DN.
Im planing on buying a receiver from:
South Coast FTA
Do they offer good service and quality? So any advice for a receiver that can be use for testing and as well with C band would be great. Anything under $175.00.lol
Thank You, guys.

Re: Can C band satellites be use...?
Yes you can hook up to you're C-band dish an get A-LOT of Channels, an channels that are not on the small dish at all like Speed in HD. but the old c-band may have a servo motor to control the polarity an if it does will need to use the C-band receiver to move an control polarity of that dish.
Now here I got a 10-footer that is controled all by a Pansat 9000, what i mean by that is their is lnbf's in the cone an use a V-3000 that takes disqc comands from the Pansat, an turns them into 36volts switched for the motor. now with that set up I have over 150 HD channels an more on the week end like sporting events, car racing, ect, even watched a UFC PPV fight their about a month ago ITC. but if you go this way LYNGSAT is a good starting place, but they are not that up to date, that is where a good blind scanning receiver comes in to find all these feeds an programs.
Good Luck

I have another question, Can I view channels from mexico with a regular DTV or DN dish, using a FTA receiver? I want to be able to watch the soccer matches.
I will connect the C band dish, but I want to get my feet wet using the regular dish. I have no experiece with satellites or receivers. Which makes this hobby hard to arquire. I was going to connect my C band about 3 months ago, but the installer wanted to charge 400 dollars to program the receiver...
Is programming an FTA receiver easier than programming a C band receiver? I seen how to program a FTA receiver and it does seem that complicated.
Thank You, very much.

Yes you can view alot of channel from Mexico on C-band, need to look at Satmex-5 & 6 a bunch of channels their, an on 5 their is about 20 channels in dvb-s2, also have a few Telumondos up on AMC-1. about 2-months ago when i was setting up the 9000, scan a pulled in a live rock concert in HD from Mexico city, an the wife loved it (so we watched it that night) even thought we could not under stand a word of it, an he was realy good, but see like it. 1 thing you might want to consider is a receiver that will do dvb-s2, cause have been seeing alot of soccer an golf, an now espn have been using the S-2 more an more an they are not that bad in price, along with 4:2:2 but those receivers are very pricey.
Now programing a C-band receiver is easy, but $400 way out of line unless he had to replace parts, cause parts for a big dish is not cheep. best advise i can give you is get you're owners manual out an print out a sat chart from lyngsat an program it you're self, it is not bad doing 1. or i can help you tru it, have worked with maney different receivers.
Now as far as using a small dish can not answer that ? Babul, I don't beleive in hacking receivers at all with so much free programing to view. because in my book when you hack a receiver an try to get a encripted program it is the same as stealing. an I am 1 of the few that visit here that uses fta receivers for the way they ment to be used, an also I keep several big dishes up an running here along with 2 big ku-dishes also. That is how I find so much programming to view.
Good luck hope all helps you out. get you're fta receiver an slave it off you're big dish an scan Satmex-5 you will be amazed on what you get.

Well I don't have a receiver for the satellite. I had one, but it got damage and was thrown away, bad idea. So thats the reason im looking for a FTA receiver that will move the big dish. Are there any FTA receivers that do that? I was trying to locate a C band receiver but I dont know what kind to get. I really like the idea of getting an FTA receiver because they are cheaper that a C band receiver. And they look easier to program. If I get an FTA receiver and a V box, Will I be able to move the dish?
I was planning on getting the Sonic View 4000. Any suggestions?
Thank You, in advance.

The only C & Ku-band receiver to buy is a DSR-922 (4-DTV) an you can find them on E-bay, about $200, but it wont give you as much as a FTA receiver for what you want to receive. now their is other analog receivers on E-bay but the DSR receivers are the only 1s that is digtal, an they have 2 models 920 & 922 buy the 922 if you go that way.
Yes the Sonicview will work along with the Powertech V-3000, an the V-3000 is the best positioner that I have ever used. now I have a Sonicview 8000 here an it stinks for blind scanning 1 of the worst receivers that I have used for blind scanning of fta. I use a Traxis 3500 an a Satopia for blind scanning 2 of the best for finding feeds, the Traxis is fast an accurate, but the Satopia will lock on real low SR, both receivers has some real good points to them.
now you need to take the cone off you're dish an check to see if you got a servo motor on you're C-band feed, 3 wires are going to it, red, white, an black. an if you do you will need a way to change polarity from vertical to horz, now you can replace it with a BSC-621 or a BSC-621-2 ( -2 is universal Ku-band they are C & Ku-band combined lnbf), an they work very well for the price of about $60.oo. or the other way is to think about a Pansat receiver, 2300, 2500, 2700,an I think the 2800? all has servo motor controls on them so you could change polarity with out changing the feed, an having to reset up the 621 if you changed it out, wich will take some time to get right if you have never done 1 before.
Good Luck
