i see many people asking questions about setting up thier motors.....so here is a very simple and easy guide to install your motor.....
easy motor setup guide......
first thing is first.....your mounting post/pole.....many people make the mistake of mounting thier post quickly and not taking enough time to make sure its very secure and straight.....this is a big mistake.....
mounting your post is one of the most critical parts of your motor installation......you need to take alot of time to make sure that it is very secure as it needs to hold quite a bit of weight.....
it also needs to be 100% LEVEL.....this is VERY IMPORTANT !!!!
your post also needs to be very strong in structure.....the reason for this is because when you tighten up the motor bolts, most of the dish manufactured posts will crush.....this will throw your motor aim completely off.....
because of this i recommend doing one of two things......the first is use a very strong steel mounting post of some sort.....a 2-3 inch electrical conduit pipe works well......
what i do personally is fill my mounting post with cement/concrete.....after the post is mounted 100% level and strong i stuff a piece of crumpled up newspaper in the bottom of it......then fill from the top with concrete mix......and let dry overnight.....this ensures the post will never crush under the pressure of the motor clamps......
now that you have your post mounted lets move on......
take your motor out of the box and mount the bracket on it.....set the motors latitude scale to your latitude......this adsjustment should NEVER be changed so you can tighten up the bolts good......
slide the motor shaft into your dishes mounting bracket.....the dish needs to be mounted 100% straight onto the motor shaft......most dishes have a bolt that goes through the motor shaft to ensure the dish stays straight.....tighten all these bolts up good......
get a metal hose clamp that will fit around your mounting post and install it tight around the post about 6 inches down from the top and tighten it up good.....this clamp lets the motor sit on top of it and prevents the motor from sliding down the post while you are making your adjustments......
now lift the whole motor and dish assembly onto your mounting post.....tighten up the bolts gradually and evenly till the assembly is snug on the post but can still swing side to side......your motor clamps should now be resting ontop of the metal hose clamp.....
do not worry about aiming yet.....
the next part assumes you are using the invacom linear/circular combo
LNB (which i highly recommend you do)......i also recommend an EMP centauri switch......
run an RG6 cable from the reciever to the motor, then an RG6 cable from the motor to a
Diseqc switch, then two RG6 cables from the switch to the LNB......one to a circular port and another to a linear port on the LNB......
always use high quality compression weatherproof cable ends.....
circular line to port one and linear line to port two on the switch.....
now you need to make sure in your
Antenna settings that you select the proper
Diseqc port.....when setting up a circular sat you need to select port one......when setting up a linear sat you need to select port two.....
turn your reciever on.....
now do a reset on the motor and set to default "0" position.....if your motor is new it should already be at "0"......
do a factory default on your reciever and make sure your wiring is correct the way i just said.....make sure your
LNB is mounted straight (90 degrees) in its holder (no skew).....this is important for the linear birds.....
now pick the closest circular sat to you, doesnt have to be directly south just close.....for talk sake on here im going to just say this is 82W.....
now go into the
Antenna settings menu for 82W and enter all the proper info.....select USALS in the motor menu and enter YOUR lat and long digits......tell the motor to drive to 82W......
now the motor thinks its pointed at 82W so now YOU have to aim it there manually......here is when you go outside to aim the dish.....
when making your horizontal adjustments you swing the motor on the pole with the dish......the dish should always be mounted straight on the motor pole/shaft......
when making vertical adjustments you move the DISH ONLY.....NOT THE MOTOR......
peak the signal for 82W and all the others should come in good.....tighten up the motor bolts gradually and evenly....continue checking the signal Q 4-5 times while doing this.....
you should easily be able to get 80+ Q on circulars......i get 95+ most of the time.....
now the motor is aimed directly south so tighten it up good....you MIGHT have to fine tune the VERTICAL adjustment ONLY (move the DISH ONLY not the motor!!) when aiming at a linear bird.....because linears are weaker.....after you do that on one of them you should be set......
if USALS isnt perfect for all the others just fine tune with your remote and save the position.......
good luck
