Choosing the RIGHT lnb for your needs

Greetings all:

Too much selection is not always a good thing; especially when it comes to a satellite lnb. Remember, not all the LNBs work for all dishes ... so before you head off the the local SAT supply guy or gal, you'll want to know the following:

c/p

There are basically two kinds of satellite lnb. One is called circular feed lnb and the other one called linear feed lnb. Linear feed IS NOT compatible to circular feed. Circular feed lnbs work for the following satellite systems: Dish Network, ExpressVu, and Direc TV.

Linear feed lnbs works for: Star Choice and Free to Air signals. Please be aware when I mention FTA (free to Air) I mean TRUE free to air satellites.

For Circular feed satellite Lnbs, the following satellites will work: Nimiq 91, Nimiq 82 (Expressvu), Dish network (119W, 110W, 148W, 118.7W and 61.5W) and DirecTV (101W)

For linear feed satellite Lnbs, the following satellites will work: Anik F1, Anik E2 (Star Choice), 121W, 97W and all FTA satellites.

Be aware, if you need High Definition on Dish Network, you require to use a Dish Pro LNB. This is a cicular feed; however, it requires a dish 1000 if you want to get 110W and 119W satellites too. If you want to get a High Definition DirecTV, then you need a Phase III LNB. This LNB will work if you have a DirecTV eliptical dish and allows you to get 101W, 119W and 110W respectively.

Circular Feed LNB

The following are the most popular circular feed LNB:

a. 118.7 (Circular 10750) LNB This is the latest LNB for Dishnetwork satellite systems. It comes in a Single, Dual and Square. Also, you can get a special LNB that allows you get both 118.7 and 119 W Satellite.

b. Legacy single & dual LNB. Single LNB connects to one receiver only; and a Dual lnb connects two receivers. These lnbs are designed to fit Bell ExpressVu and Dish Network satellite dishes. The Dish arm must be oval tube shape in order to fit. Also, this lnb will pick up only one satellite.

c. Twin and Quad Legacy LNB. These LNBS connects anywhere from 1 up to four receivers. It is designed to work on D-Shape tube dishes such as Dish Network and Bell Express. Also, these LNBS pick up two satellites at once: either 119W & 110W or Nimiq 91W & Nimiq 82W. This is due to the fact, they have an SW21 build it each output. These LNBS are designed to work for old receivers for Bell ExpressVu & Dish network.

d. Dish Pro Twin and Quad LNB. These are the same as (b). The only difference that works for newer receivers ONLY. Especially for those receivers with the logo "DP" infront of it.

e. Dish Pro Plus LNB: It works for DP receivers. In fact, it works for both HD and Non HD receivers.

f. RCA single & Dual LNB. This satellite lnb work for any dish that has a satellite arm or tube rectangular shape. It is mainly designed for RCA or DirecTV satellite dishes. It connects one or two receivers depending whether the lnb has single or dual output in it.

g. DSS Triple LNB. DirecTV has a triple LNB that allows to point three different satellites simultaneously. These are: 101W, 110W and 119W. 110W satellites give you all the HDTV channels. 101W & 119W gives you English, PPV Sports and DirecTV para Todos Spanish channels.

Linear Feed LNBS

The following are the most popular linear feed LNB:

a. Single & dual non-stack LNB. This LNB is exclusively used for Star Choice 24" & 30" round dishes. There are two types of LNBs. One is a cylinder style shape and the other one is an L-Shape square box style. Even though, they are designed for Star Choice satellite systems, you can use these LNBs with a 30" or bigger dish to pick up True Free to satellite channels.

b. Single Stack LNB. This LNB is a great one which Star Choice made. With a Single Stack LNB, you can run multiple receivers using one single line. All you do is connect the single output, of this LNB, into a High Frequency splitter (Freq. Range 900-2100MHZ). In fact, you can connect as many receivers. This LNB fits on any 24" & 30" Star Choice round dishes.

c. Dual Stack LNB. This LNB works for both 60cm & 75cm Eliptical dishes (Star Choice.) It is designed to pick up two Satellites Anik F1, Anik E2. One satellite gives you HD channels and the other one regular standard definition channels respectively.

d. Quad Non-Stack LNB. This satellite lnb is the same as (b) with the difference that it has four outputs. Each output picks up both Anik F1 and E2. In other words, ALL four receivers would pick up both HD channels and standard channels with no additional switches at all!

e. Standard Linear Feed LNBF. Used for 76" to 90" satellite dishes. These lnbs are designed for True FTA.

Circular & Linear LNB in One.

This is a 4 output quad lnb. Two ports are linear type and the other two are circular feed. This lnb is great for horizon mounts or mobile dishes, since it can be used to pickup analog and digital type of satellites. An excellent choice for TRUE FTA'ers.

I hope this will make the selection and purchase of the right LNB for your system easier.
