Slimline dish into a 1000.2 ?
went out dumpster diving and my brother found a slimline dish. thing is huge! i know the lnb is useless for dn. i was wondering if it was possible to cut the arm of the slimline to the length of my 1000.2 dish i have and attach a spare 1000.2 lnb i have lying around. i would think it would adjust the focal point to receive 110, 119, 129. i was wondering if anybody else has done this to receive 110, 119, 129 or if this sounds logical. any feedback would be appreciated...thanks

Re: Slimline dish into a 1000.2 ?
You woudn't want to shorten to much the arm of the slimline dish as its lenght is already designed for that dish focus.
On the other hand the integrated triple LNB is designed for the 1000.2 focus given by its arm lenght.
My guess would be that playing with the LNB location around the midd position given by the mean lenght of the 2 arms would be the optimum. An adjustable bracket would significantly help.
But you would never know, unless you try.

cut the slimline arm the same lenght as the 1000.2 arm,,,they should be the same distance away from the dish when attached,,

i would think the spacing of the lnb's on the 1000.2 lnb is setup for that certain distance away from the dish.

Re: Slimline dish into a 1000.2 ?
I guess it could work. I know you can turn a Phase III into a 500 so I guess it is possible. I know when cutting the dish it will not get the quality like with the bracket. I have used these Daucers(lnb bracket) on the Phase III and Slimline and they get 90%-99%

Re: Slimline dish into a 1000.2 ?
if you do some googling, you will find several posts detailing how to do the exact mod you're asking about. You do have to cut the length of the slimline LNB arm down.
Signal strength is through the roof, and you can use the fine angle adjustment with a wrench to really dial in the signal strength, moving the dish fractions of a millimeter at a time.

The focal point of the dish is the critical parameter, and each dish design has its own. Unscientific guesses can yield results that are not optimal, but workable, if the signal strengths from the satellite have adequate margins. The arm length of a DN1000.2 should not be similar to that of a DTV Slimline unless the focal points of the parabolic dishes are identical. The reflective distances from the dish will dictate LNB spacing.

Re: Slimline dish into a 1000.2 ?
well after doing some research i started in. i cut the lnb arm off right where it starts to flare out and drilled the locator holes for the lnb. i ended up getting quality of 90 - 93% for 110, 119 and quality of 83 for 129...setup on a tripod on the soggy ground in the backyard. thanks everybody for your feedback

The Slimline mount with its fine tuning features makes this dish worth dumpster-diving for.

Re: Slimline dish into a 1000.2 ?
There is a dish focal calculator on this system someplace jc7257 is always showing people where it is, its an Excel Spread sheet utility, you plug in a couple measurements and presto, it tells you what things are/should be.
Hit him up for it, I looked but can't find it. Also in tha FAQ area, there is a Dish Conversion Tutorial you guys might want to review

Re: Slimline dish into a 1000.2 ?
Agreed ... if all dish mfg's utilized that feature it would be great!
