Multi lnb receiver set up question

Hi,

I am planning on watching dn and bev along with intelsat 5, with dn on one dish and bev and globecast on another dish. And then take that to 3-4 different receivers. What type of lnb's will I need, do I need to get dual lnb's or can I use single lnb's? my next question would be to the type of switches, if i need to use dual lnb's, that would mean i that I have to use 9-10 lnb's - what type of switch(es) would I need to use? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Not 100% but I'm sure you will need 2 different lnbs for sure. Some of those sats run different bands.... I would think a motor would be the way to go...

You will need a DP quad for DN and Bev and a linear LNB for I5 or you can get a Motor with a Combo type LNB for all the satellites and only 1 dish.

Thanks for your reply carpenter1. However, I thought you could use only one receiver with motor or am I wrong on that? How would 2 receivers get programming from 2 different sat at the time using a motor?

The second part of my questions was pertaining to the type of LNB and switches to use. Can I use single LNBs, put a switch in between and connect 3 receivers to it? Or do I have to get quad LNBs for that? And can I use 2-3 4X1 DiseqC switches and to create a single cable that then would be split somewhere else using a 2X4 switch? Would I need to use in-line amps at any point?
Thanks again for your help.

It's obvious that each receiver will need it's own dish to view different satellites at different times. I would not worry so much about all receivers receiving all satellites, as this is a spendy proposition. You will need 4 motors equipped with a special LNB for each of the 4 receivers. I would set up a Dish 500 with a Quad Dish Pro LNB to power the four receivers with the 2 Dish Network satellites.

You can add a second 18" dish to feed 2 receivers with Nimiq1 (BEV). If need be, you can add another to upgrade the other 3rd and 4th receivers to BEV.

Then maybe add a 33" dish with a linear LNB to see how much impact that globecast makes to your viewing on your primary receiver. I do know this will receive some local channels the other satellites do not have. Considering spending an extra $400 to have these on every receiver doesn't make very much sense to me.

Check Lyngsat to see how many channels your mega setup would net you, considering there are numerous duplicate channels. I am sure just the first 2 dishes that pick up the below mentioned 3 satellites will satisfy at least 99.9% of all viewers and setups.

Rome was NOT built in one day!

I cannot find the time to watch the 1000+ channels I have from the usual 3 satellite (Echo 7 @ 119W, Echo 6,8 @ 110W and Nimiq 1 @ 91W) setup. I doubt you will need the added complexity to get just a few more channels.

Good Luck !!
