S&Q Meters on Ultra

I was looking for some info on what I may be doing wrong with my Viewsat Ultra.

When I try and do an antenna setup and pick the sat name for the satellite I am aimed at the S meter shows around 54 and the Q meter shows 0.
However when I am watching a channel and press the info button I get a S reading of around 80 and a Q reading of around 85.

The dish that I am using for this was setup a long time ago and I never had to reaim it when I connected the ultra.

I was doing to add a second dish to my system but without working meters in the antenna setup screen it is near impossible to tell if I am aiming my dish at the right target.

I do not have a hand held satellite signal meter and since I live in a remote area it would take a while to get one through the mail.


Any possible solutions would be greatfully received.

You dont need a sat finder if your going after just one bird,,,,but you do need a compass,,,and the correct settings for elevation and azimuth for that sat..

well the meters work but just not great. i was able to point everything ok with the meters BUT if you have it set for 110 example and the port and LNB are actually on 119 they you WILL get signal but no Q as i think it only sees the signal but not from the right bird.

its digital, if you have a picture, thats as good as it gets i think.

peps is right, just calculate your look angle based on where you are (remember to correct for magnetic north) and then get out the compass. i did that and i was real close.

Thankyou to both peps4 and hazwis for the replies.

In the meantime I kepth trying changing as many setting in the antenna setup menu and I could and stumbled onto the answer to my own problem.
It seems I had the wrong LNB High value. I chanded from 11,000 to 11,250 and the meter reading now seems to work.
