All 'soft keys' or Opkeys (in the case of Viewsat) are electronic .hex or binary versions of the Key data that one would typically enter into their receivers via the remote.
However, entering in Key data via the remote sucks! So, using the electronic versions (provided they are current) are a far easier way to accomplish the same thing, especially if you have a USB port on your unit.
