I'm new and need some info
hi everybody,
I'm new to this forum and I already like it. Looks like everybody here is trying to help.
two days I got 34 inch dish and Viewsat VS2000 installed and I'm getting lots of international channels, but no local channels and no channels that I really wanted. The dish is pointed to Intelsat 5 97w.
I noticed everybody is talking about BIN thing, about firmware, loader and etc. Now my questions to you(don't laugh too loud): what is the BIN anyway? What do I need it for? What do I have to download into my computer/receiver?
Basically, I need some start up information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Re: I'm new and need some info
hey Arthur, welcome. What are you looking for?
If your dish is pointed at Intelsat 5 (aka Telstar) that is what you will get. I have the same type dish, VS Ultra, and although I have it motorized, am watching mostly AMC4 for my dutch programing, 110&119 for US programming since I am in Canada. So it all depends what you are looking for. Most forums require you to search and read a lot, but if you narrow it down to what you are after, you may receive an answer, and some pointers, without an overwhelming amount of info.

Re: I'm new and need some info
If you go to the site below it will list what channels are on what byrd. I did not find to much interesting on the 97w. and as far as locals that would depend on what is your local area. some of the main byrds 110 and 119 have the major cities locals for others you may have to go to 61.5 or 121. And then if your in the great white north Eh then you are probably looking for 91

Re: I'm new and need some info
Also very important if you have not read it yet. It is very important to get the correct update for your matching model. you listed VS 2000 but there are serveral types like Extreme, ultra, lite ect. and each kind takes different update main program files.

Re: I'm new and need some info
Bins are BINary files that are installed to your STB and contain the latest (required) codes. You did not mention where you are located (country, state, or region), so "local" channels can mean anything! WRT your other questions, perhaps this link may help you to get started off in the right direction:
