house struck by lightning
Good morning! First let me say that I appreciate this site. I have learned so much by reading all of the informative posts. Here is my question. My house was struck by lightning, but nothing was damaged or burnt. However, my viewsat ultra has no signal strength showing now. It shows the signal strength panel to the right of the screen, and on the left, it says searching for signal. Could this be a co-ax problem? I disconnected it from the box, and reconnected it. Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: house struck by lightning
Signal strength is the "Q" and "S" is the connectivity to the lnb. What are they showing?

Hi Bobo, right now, I can't tell you the answer to that question. I am at work. I'll run home at lunch and check.

Re: house struck by lightning
If you have a switch on your system it would have been fried, had that problem with a friends, replaced the switch and all was good, remember to turn your box off at the back before changing any cables

Re: house struck by lightning
if you are using a DP500 lnb the internal switch is most likley blown. It doesn't take much to fry the switch.

Re: house struck by lightning
Try changing to a different transponder and if you still get nothing then it could be like the others suggested the switch, lnb or the dish could need to be aligned again.

Re: house struck by lightning
Thank you, Bobo. It turns out the lightning went in through the coax and took out the tuner. The receiver will have to be replaced.
I want to tell everyone thank you for responding. I appreciate y'alls knowledge and the information I get from this site.
