Tired of bringing my Ultra to Work!
Tired of beinging my Ultra to work to upload New BINs I guess it's about time I come out of the dark ages and start using the usb port. I have to buy the serial to usb cable and I saw them on line but also saw them in Radioshack, but when reading some of the posts on ABA noted some Bad wright-ups that Radioshack unit had issues? Can anyone tell me if there is a special unit I should buy? And is there any thing else I should be looking for?

Re: Tired of bringing my Ultra to Work!
o.o Why would you buy a usb to serial cable when you can just use a simple USB FLASH DRIVE? Download bin at work or home, copy to USB flash drive and load to receiver via USB port. Simple and painless. It's so easy even a caveman can do it!

Re: Tired of bringing my Ultra to Work!
The Ultra has a USB port that allows you to upload all files without the need of connecting your receiver to your PC.
Just get yourself a USB Memory Stick (512MB is more than enough) and all you have to do is unzip the file into the USB Stick, plug the stick into your receiver and upload the file. Whole process takes less than a minute.

Re: Tired of bringing my Ultra to Work!
OK! I have a 2GB Stick so your telling me I can just down-load the new BIN on to the Stick from my computer and plug it into my Ulta and follow the software update upgrade? I thought I had to due the transfer ONLY from the serial port.

Re: UPLOADING PROBLEM
Greetings!
well, I did the usual.
Saved the new downloads (extracted file) to memory stick .. went to upload program to viewsatultra and...nothing, nada..
Usually a screen message pops up: "DO Not shut off power!!" while it is upgrading from USB.
This looks like it uploaded but I had to click EXIT because nothing happened for 20 minutes and I have nothing but a Blue screen now.
I am slightly concerned folks. Any suggestions?

Re: Tired of bringing my Ultra to Work!
On the upgrade menu, choose the usb option at the bottom. Navigate to the correct file and click ok. Wait for it to reboot and turn off the back switch so you can remove the flash drive.

Re: Tired of bringing my Ultra to Work!
'Wait for it to reboot'
Usually it tells me when it is done rebooting or it gives me some message such as the "Do not shut off power" messege.
it now only says 'reading file'
than nothing. How long do you suggest i wait before shutting off power to remove flash card? I waited 5 minutes just now and it is autoroll processing with no result.

Re: Tired of bringing my Ultra to Work!
did you right click and extract file first?
then copy and paste to the USB or maybe the usb is damage
check system information if the update is in the reciever
and is not working the file is corrupted
sometimes takes 5 or 10 minutes to autoroll
maybe more
