Newbie Setup Guide for 2800A
thanks to my buddy snic for this nice guide from other site.
c&P
Take your new 2800A out of the box and plug it in.
Switch ON from the back switch….after a few secs the SW version will appear on front display. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU SEE B-80 DISPLAYED! You must be running B-80 SW in order for the latest bins to function properly!
If you do not see B-80, you probably will see B-71 displayed. This is an older SW version and you will FIRST NEED TO UPDATE BEFORE PROCEEDING.
Now that you have confirmed you are running B-80 SW……let’s proceed.
YOU MUST ALWAYS USE THE LATEST BLACKLIST LOADER TO LOAD THE LATEST BLACKLIST BINS. check and make sure 28.01 is the latest Blacklist loader
If 28.01 IS NOT the latest loader version posted, use the latest version as to be compatible with the latest Blacklist Bin!!!
IT IS RECOMMENDED YOU CHECK FOR THE LATEST BLACKLIST BIN.
Check the post dates and make sure you load the current Blacklist Bin
DO NOT run ANY Downloader or BIN from the zip OR rar file. Unzip ALL the files to a Folder, then proceed with the instructions below.
Here we Go:
1). Turn your 2800 "OFF" via rear switch.
2). Connect the RS232C null modem cable to the receiver and Com1 port of your computer. (Use Com2 if not Com1 is not available). Note Some FTA receivers use a straight serial cable for downloads, THIS SERIAL CABLE WILL NOT WORK!!!. You must use a Null Modem serial cable, or a straight serial cable with a "null" adapter.
3). Plug in the receiver, Turn your 2800 "ON" via the rear switch, and first see B-80 displayed on the LED on the receiver and then see “On” is indicated
4). Run the Downloaded (Blacklist Loader v28.01 [pansat2800A].exe) from the new created folder on your PC.
5). Check the App File Only button, then Bin File button and select the “latest update” file, example
X-88BL_070104_80_405eubx_api then click the Open button.
Note: Bin files MUST be unzipped before loading!!!
6). Double check and make sure the cable is securely connected.
7). Click the Download button. A progress box will display on PC and the 2800 led will display the progress. The led display may out run the PC display, this is OK. The PC progress will hang for a sec or 2 on 99% and then the 2800 will reboot to “ON”.
Wait until the “Download Completed!!” is displayed on PC.
8). Wait for unit to reboot to ON, VERY IMPORTANT….DO NOT INTERUPT THE DOWNLOAD PROCESS!!!
Common problem is that some people unplug or exit too soon!
You are now done with the software update.
9). Turn your 2800 "OFF" via rear switch.
10). Unplug and disconnect receiver from PC
Connecting the receiver to the TV.
11). Connect your 2800A to your TV. The 2800A has several connection options to choose.
12). Connect the R6 Cable from the dish or switch to the IF input of the receiver. Plug in the power cord from the 2800A to an AC outlet. And turn it on from back switch.
13). You should see the Language Menu on the TV screen, select applicable "Language".
Satellite Setup.
Note : The following steps 14...22 assumes you are using Dish 500 and Legacy Dual LNBs or DishPro LNB. This are the most common for FTA If you are not sure which LNB type you have Click HERE to see pics of different LNBs. If you are using different equipment, or desire to view other sats, search this forum for proper set up (Click HERE to Search)
Search function may be disabled due to excessive server traffic.
The following is for typical FTA setup for Echo sats.
DiSEqC Switch Setup (Hardware)
Connected the Legacy Dual LNB 119 cable to the LNB1 port of the DISEqC, and connected LNB 110 cable to the LNB2 of the DISEqC switch.
14). Goto the Installation Option on Menu
15). Goto the Antenna setup
16). Select satellites you want (birds Echo7/Ku (110W) and Echo8.6/Ku (119W) are the Dishnet birds), press the OK button. Set up one sat at time. After selecting one sat move on to steps 17-21 and repeat for each sat selected.
DO NOT select more then one satellite if you only have one dish with one single lnb
17). LNB Type: select (“Standard” for Legacy LNB) or (“Dish-Pro” for Dishpro Twin)
18). LNB Local-Freq: enter “11250” (default)
19). 22kHz: OFF (default)
20). Refer to “DISEqC Swith Set up” note above: DiSEqC: if you anly have one Legacy lnb, set to 0: if you have two Legacy lnbs or Dish Pro Twins on your dish, change this setting as to the correct lnb #1, #2, as per your ACTUAL DiSEqc setup.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Although you may be using Dish-Pro Twins and ARE NOT USING A DISEqC switch, the DiSEqC settings setup ARE THE SAME!
21). TP: leave it as is.
Check the Level= highest as you can, and Quality= highest as you can (adjust the dish slightly to improve the signal strength)
(You should see “Level” of approximately 80%, this simply means your lnbs are communicating with the receiver. However, you may not see “Quality” (sat signal) on the current TP, do not be concerned. You can scroll up to other TPs and you should see Quality, provided your dish is aimed properly)
22). If you get no Quality level on these transponders, try other TPs before giving up. Not all transponders are transmitting all the time. MAKE SURE THE CABLE IS PLUGGED INTO THE "IF INPUT" PORT ON THE BACK OF THE RECEIVER! Plug the other end directly into the LNB or proper DiSEqC port.
NOTE: when you exit out of this menu, the TP will revert back to TP 1, this is normal.
23). Adjust your dish if are not getting adequate Quality signal. After you exit all the way out, press the SIG button on the remote to check Quality, press twice to view the Quality graph, you need be in the Green range.
24). Press the Exit button and you will see all the sats you have set up. Hit Exit again to exit all the way out.
25).Channel List
As a Newbie, understanding channel list can be complicated and you can work with this at a later time.
CHANNEL LIST ARE NOT NECESSARY
I DO NOT use a channel list, I prefer to scan in my own channels as described in the steps below. This way you get all the channels available for your particular area. I suggest you follow the steps below and perform Sat scans as described below.
Scanning for Channels (8-10 minutes per sat )
26). Go back to the Installation Menu
27). Go to Satellite Scan, press OK, select the satellite to scan using the Up & Down buttons. Press OK to start the scanning.
28) After your sat scan is complete for that sat, select the addition sats from your list until you have completed scanning all your sats.
29) exit all the way out when complete. The receiver will remain in the last channel scanned.
30) Choose a channel. If you press your Sat button on remote, you will see your list of sats. You will also see “Echostar Package” (if you setup and scanned Echo 7 & 8.6) and Nimiq Package (if you setup and scanned Nimiq 1.3)
Select one of these (if available) and then you can select your channel as per the published “Subscribed” channel list accordingly.
SET DEFAULT KEYS.
Chances are the keys have rolled and the BIN needs to set the keys. If so, you will first see “Bad or Scrambled” message followed by “Wait for Picture” XX%” message. This is the Auto Roll function. You will see the % start counting up, do not be concerned if it goes lesser or higher than 100%, this is normal. The keys will be set in a matter of minutes. If not, try setting the default keys as outlined below.
31). Select channel 8282 on remote. Scroll down to “Set Default Key”, press OK, Exit out. If STILL no immediate picture, the receiver and bin WILL set keys as described above.
32) For the EPG to work properly, go into Menu/User Setup/Time Setting and set the correct time zone for your area. The actual time, year, and days date, are set automatically by the Receiver & Bin.
You should now be WATCHING FTA TV:
Good Luck and Happy Testing !
