RS232 versus Null Modem Cable

Hi,

Is there a different between RS232 straight cable female to female versus Null Modem cable? I have fortec and I use the cable to load firmware, it works. But I use the same cable for Pansat 3500 and I can't seem to load the firmware into the receiver.

The two cable looks identical to me? Can anyone tell me?

the wires that run to pins 2 and 3 are backwards they dont run stright through
