Basic intro guide for using ChannelMaster with Sonicview.

Part 1 -
ChannelMaster is a universal channel editor that can be used for almost all FTA receivers, but this short intro guide will just be for using with SV1000 & SV4000.
Download ChannelMaster here.

Lets start the simple way by scanning the sats with sonicview's built in satinfo and uploading scan to ChannelMaster.

Upload scan to ChannelMaster - SV 1000

Connect SV to computer with NM serial cable
Turn on SV1000 & open channelMaster
Click Tools>Read from STB>select Sonicview in box type dropdown list then click next>set com port & Read as New Channel Master Project then click next 2 times.
Thats it channel list is now uploaded to Channel Master.

Upload scan to ChannelMaster - SV4000

Menu>instalation>transfer data to usb>Channel press OK.
Insert USb stick in computer
Open Channel Master

Deleting & locking channels

Higlight a satelite on left and main window will show channels.
R click any channel or group of highlit channels(ctrl click or shft click) and you can Delete Lock or send to Fav

Write edited list to STB for SV1000.

Connect SV1000 to computer & power on
Click Tools>Write to STB>select sonicview>next>com port next>SV1000 - next - next

Export to USB stick for SV4000

ChannelMaster Quick Guide Part 2

Part 2 - Spotbeam Scan.

Note : ChannelMaster can make worse any problems SV receivers have with EPG & rescans when using the sonicviews inbuilt satellite list to scan sats (or using most other posted satinfo files).

Best method for scanning sats is to let SV make its own satellite TP Data list by doing a "spotbeam scan". You are not actualy just scanning spotbeam TP's, the name spotbeam scan comes from the fact that on DN sat 119w TP 1 - freq 12224 is a spotbeam TP for local channels for aprox 6 dif regions and outside those regional footprints 119w TP 12224 is not active.
I think I was the first to use that term when I first started posting channel lists & how to's for pansats & later for dreamboxes in the early years of the FTA revolution, and the name just kinda stuck. When sharpC's ChannelMaster came out there was no longer a real need to post channel lists for FTA receivers except for dreamboxes which did not scan DSS sats at that time."geno" fast became the champ for dreambox channel lists so then no need for me to post them.

There are two methods for doing a spotbeam scan, one is to do it in SV receiver with TP edit, the other is to create your own satinfo file in ChannelMaster.
As this is a guide for using ChannelMaster with SV here is ChannelMaster method of creating your own custom satinfo file for your region.

If you have done part 1 of this guide you will have on your desktop a channelmaster project file from your initial saved edit.
Open it in channelMaster by dbl clicking it.
First click the + beside sat 119 (on the left) to open up the TP list then click 12224 and see if you have any channels on that TP, if not then TP 12239 will be your lowest active TP on 119 (you will delete 12224 & leave 12239 on 119 if 12224 not active, in the next steps).

Now open up your favorites one at a time & clear all channels in main window (shft click > delete)
Now you delete all TP's except the lowest freq active TP on all used sats (left side click + beside Satellite to open TP list)
Now delete all the channels for the single tp remaining on all your used sats.
This is now your satinfo file for sending to your SV & doing a spotbeam scan.
Write to STB or Export in SV1000 or SV4000 format using same procedure outlined in Part-1.

End of Part - 2

Channel Master Quick Guide Part 3

IMPORTANT NOTE - I missed one important step in Part 1 please add this info to Part 1.

After you have trimmed your channels and before you make your Fav Lists you must "Reorder Channels" R click a satelite (on the left) >Reorder Channels >check Assign Station ID & Ignore conflicting channels > OK.

Part 3 - Templates

Having put a lot of work into your custom Channel List (renaming channels, adding & deleting channels, setting up your Favorites, etc.) and your list is the way you like it, you save this information so you can use it with other channel lists by creating a Template. Applying this Template to a freshly scanned and uploaded Channel List will convert that new scan into an almost completed Channel List instantly.

The Template contains this data:
1) Satellite–SID–Channel_Name association
2) DiSEqC, Motor settings, and some other Antenna settings
3) Dolby Digital Audio (AC3) data
4) Favorites data
5) TID and NID data
Note : If provider changes SID for any channel you will have to enter data manualy for that channel (or C&P from another list)

Templates do not contain this data
TP freq or polarity, scrambled or not, PCR PID, vid PID, audio PID, or PMT. So these values will remain as they were scanned by the STB – unchanged after the Template is applied. This feature permits quick and easy updating of channel lists as the satellite provider changes channel properties.

To make a Template
click on “Tools” in the Menu bar and select “Create Template”. Save it in your Channel Lists folder.

Applying a Template

To apply the Template to a fresh scan, first "Read from STB" or import it into Channel Master - click on Tools and select Apply Template. Check the particular options that you want to change or add and most of the work of creating a new Channel List is completed. You can delete the unused satellites and Reorder the channels either before or after applying the Template.
TIP : If you search around you will find many Channel Master long name templates posted that could save you a lot of time editing channel names, find one you like and apply it first, check "apply name" then fill in the gaps and change whatever.

Did not have time to include C&P between multi channel lists, that will be Part 4
Part 4 will have to wait a while, its trout season and freezer needs stocking up for summer.

I have a SV4000. Is there a way to add channels to the list that hides with the parental controls option to hide or to remove some from that list?

Re: A Quick Guide for using Channel Master with Sonicview

Hi,
Thanks for you post. How one can upload the channel data files on sv4000? (the channel data is prepared by channelmaster and exported as sv4000)It seems that the way should be: menu->data transfer->channel data and press OK but it just says"failed" without giving the chance to select anything in usb drive.
