detailed VideoRedo tutorial: How to convert .TRP file(s)
c/p
detailed VideoRedo tutorial
How to convert .TRP file(s) into a single MPEG file in 11-Steps with “VideoRedo/TVSuite”
Why would you knowingly convert HD files to SD videos? I cringe at the thought of reduced video quality and excessive re-encoding time.
Friends and relatives (without HD equipment) often request DVDs of special HD programs I recorded. VideoRedo and VideoRedo TVSuite are the best programs I’ve found for this purpose.
VideoRedo converted .TRP files (to MPEG) can be viewed with Windows Media Player or burned to DVD with “VideoRedo TVSuite”, DVD Architect (my favorite DVD authoring program) or any other DVD authoring program.
The best thing I like about VideoRedo is it does everything quickly.
This tutorial will teach you how to use “VideoRedo/ TVSuite” to open SonicView 8000HD (and possibly other STBs) .TRP files, cut unwanted material from the beginning, middle and end of videos (like commercials) and create a MPEG file.
Important:
Before you start, please note these facts:
1. Some DVD authoring programs don’t recognize the audio stream (Intervideo Audio Codec) in files created by VideoRedo. This tutorial will show you how to get around this by changing the audio codec to MPEG (which will work in programs like Sony DVD Architect and Sony Vegas Video Pro) or LPCM/WAV.
2. VideoRedo also will not convert MPEG4 1080i videos to MPEG.
3. SonicView divides each video into multiple 15-minute segments. These segments are not viewable on SonicView’s on-screen menu, so ensure you copy the entire "movie folder".
4. Lastly, this tutorial utilizes a 225-minute recording named “HDPPV 8PSK” which contains 15 separate files. The first file is named “HDPPV 8PSK.TRP” and the other 14 files are named “HDPPV 8PSK.001”, “HDPPV 8PSK.002”, etc.
Enough with the long preamble.
STEPS:
1. Connect your external hard-drive (with the video you want to convert) to your computer via an USB port, or copy the video folder to an internal HD.
2. Run VideoRedo/ TVSuite
3. Select “File -> Open Video ->”
4. Navigate to the folder containing the video files (See 1st attached picture)
You will not see any files because the .TRP files are not listed as supported
“Files of Type” (sic).
5. Click the “Files of Type” (sic) pull down menu and select “All Files”. The ".TRP" and all associated files are now visible. (See 2nd attached picture)
6. We need to add each “15 minute” file to the “Joiner” section of the program to create a single MPEG file:
a. Highlight all files EXCEPT the .IDX and .IFO files.
b. Select “Open”
c. A “Combine or Join Files” window will pop up. Select “Join” (See 3rd attached picture)
7. Ensure the files are in the correct order:
a. From the top menu bar, click “Joiner -> Edit Joiner List ->
b. Highlight the “HDPPV 8PSK.TRP” file and move it to the top of the list with the “up” icon on the right side of the screen
c. Ensure all other files are in sequential order utilizing the icons on the right side of the screen. (See 4th attached picture)
8. Locate the first file you want the video to start from. The starting point may be in the first (.TRP) file or any of the other files, depending on how far into the video the point is:
a. Start the search with the “.TRP” file and select the “Edit Selection” icon.
b. Search this file with the green “preview timeline” slide-bar until you find the starting point.
Note: If the starting point is not in the .TRP file, continue the search with the ***.001 file and other files until you locate the file containing the starting point. Repeat steps 7-8 until you find the file with your starting point.
9. Once you locate the correct file, if necessary, delete any unneeded files from the “Joiner” screen (My starting point was in file “HDPPV 8PSK.008”, so I deleted the .TRP file, and files ***.001 through ***.007):
a. Select “Joiner” from the top bar, then “ Edit Joiner List ->”,
b. Highlight the file(s) to be deleted and click the “Remove” icon.
c. Repeat this step for each file to be deleted.
10. Now edit the unwanted material in front of the starting point of the first file:
a. Select the file which contains the starting point,
b. search the file with the green “preview timeline” slide-bar until you find the starting point,
c. click the “Set Start” icon,
d. delete the information prior to the starting point by clicking the “Trim Unselect” icon. (See 5th attached picture)
11. Since we’ve deleted the unnecessary files and created a starting point for the video, we can now create a single MPEG file from the files left in the “Joiner” section:
a. Click the “Create Video from Joiner List” icon located on the bottom of the “Joiner List”,
b. give it a name,
c. IMPORTANT: If you decide to use another program to author a DVD, the default Intervideo audio codec may not be recognized by your authoring program and will result in a missing audio track. To correct this:
1. select “Options” on the “Save As” window, and
2. under “Audio Properties -> Encoding” select “MPEG” or “LPCM/WAV” from the drop-down menu. (Note: Oddly, the “LPCM/WAV” option was not recognized by Sony Vegas Video or DVD Architect.)
d. select the correct path where you want to save the file then press “save”.
The program will appear to shut down and an “output” window will appear and show an estimate of rendering time remaining. (See 6th attached picture)
An “Output Processing Complete” window will soon appear once the operation is finished. (See 7th attached picture)
That’s it! Enjoy your video!

Re: detailed VideoRedo tutorial: How to convert .TRP file(s)
this ones a c/p from INTREPID499
SV-HD8000 PVR 1080i File Conversion
After many hours of looking for a correct procedure to convert "trp" files (MPEG 4 1080i), finally I succesfully do it !!!
Programs needed:
1- H264TS_Cutter
2- Nero Vision 5 or Nero Vision 4
Additional programs (needed for H264_Cutter):
1- Net 2.0 Framework (Microsoft)
2- DirectX 9.c (August 2007 Release) (Microsoft)
3- AVC / H264 DirectShow Decoder
4- TS-Splitter (Haali Media Splitter is recommended)
After installing all your programs, download to your HD the "trp" files created by the SV-HD8000. The files ending in .00x must be renamed to ".trp".
Open H264TS_Cutter, then TOOLS>Convert TRP/REC to TS.
After creating your new "ts" files load them in Nero Vision 5. Then you can create DVD's, HD DVD's, Blu_Ray, or mini HD DVD*.
This new Nero 8 program have a new feature where you can store HD material in a regular DVD. About 30 mins in a single layer or 60 min in a double layer (this mini HD DVD's are only playble in HD DVD players, sorry not in BLU-Ray players).
This "ts" files cannot be reencoded with ConvertXtoDVD or VideoREDO...

Re: detailed VideoRedo tutorial: How to convert .TRP file(s)
c/p from dieselgg
Very quick and easy way convert HD Mpeg4 trp files to m2ts
I posted this method in the guides section but also decided to post it here too.
I read the other PVR1080i mpeg 4 conversion guide for the SV8000 in this forum and the method was horrible. Copying all files into one .trp file. Then using the H.264 Cutter app to convert the .trp file to .ts. Then loading the .ts file into Nero Vision to encode and burn onto a DVD disc. That process would take 15 hours on a P4 gig. < ----- this is horrible.
The method shown below took about 20 minutes including burning to disc on my P4 3 Gig.
This basis of this method using the TsRemux app was found at videohelp.com.
1. If you don't need to cut out commercials, all you need to is as follows:
Use the copy command to combine all trp files into one .ts file. (The files are combined into one .trp file but the extension is renamed as .ts)
For example:
copy /b "xxx.trp"+"xxx.001"+"xxx.002"+"xxx.003" xxx.ts
Then, load the .ts file into TsRemux. Select the audio and video stream. Then deselect 'Bypass Audio Alignment'. Then select your output file as .m2ts and then select a directory for the output file and create a name for the file. Click on the "Remux" button and in a few minutes, you will have a file, depending on the size, than can be burned to a DVD5 or DVD9 disc, which will play on your PS3.
If you select Blu-ray as your output, you have to make sure the resolution is a perfect 720p or 1080p. Otherwise, the PS3 will not play it.
2. If you need to cut out commercials or whatever.
You would use the copy command to copy all files into one .trp file. Use H.264 Cutter to convert the file into .ts. Then load the video file into H.264 Cutter to edit out commercials. You have to select the Start and End frames and then click on the Add button. I believe the Start and End frames refer to the video you want to keep, not the video you are removing. So you will have to join the .ts files you have cut. (These extra steps will take extra time). Either way, at this point you just have to load your final .ts final into TsRemux as explained in Step 1.
As mentioned, TsRemux takes about 5 minutes and is free. Nero Vision you have to pay and takes 15 hours. You decide.
