Re: report your pvr results here
suggested hard drives reported as working on the sv 8000hd:
Simpletech 360 or 500G
Lacie 500g
Any size or the Simpletech SP-U35
Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 500/1tb
Acomdata 509 series USB2 only case
SP-35 (BOM No. 96300-41001-013 for the 500G model)
Vox 500GB usb 2.0
Seagate Freeagent 750 GB model and it works well. It takes a few MINUTES for it to initialize when plugged in and turned on and you need to record at least 2 minutes of video for HD (or else the recording wont play back) but other than that it has worked pretty good.
SATA Drive to USB convertor from cyberguys dot com. It's a unique gizmo because you just set any SATA drive, 2.5 OR 3.5 inside the cradle - vertically - like setting bread in a toaster - and BOOM - the thing worked on my HD8000. Of course I used swissknife to format the drive first to FAT32. The thing saw the drive I put in it right away.
Now with SATA - you get the benefit of slamming in there a RAPTOR 10,000 RPM drive. Yes, it's only 160 GB (WD Raptors) but I don't have any delays or hanging like I sometimes have with some IDE 7200 RPM drives.
On Cyberguys - search for part #163 0139 - it's made by Vantec - 2.5/3.5 SATA HDD Dock to USB 2.0
Lacie 500g
Titanium 500GB
Seagate 320GB External Hard Drive
USB 2.0, 8MB Cache, 7200 RPM
Maxtor Onetouch III firewire400/USB 2.0 300GB
Cavalry
320GB USB 2.0 External Drive
LaCie ..brick-RED 250Gb USB 2.0 HD
seagate deskagent 320
Seagate 320GB Sata II
External Vantec case with eSATA + USB 2.0
Formatted with format32.exe
Cavalry 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM 16MB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive..formatted with FAT32 by unit
400GB Seagate SATAII, Vantec eSATA/USB2 enclosure works great, but SV8000HD will not format the disk, message 'unknown USB'. I had to do it on the computer and it worked fine after that.
MAXTOR One Touch III 200GB USB 2.0 7200rpm 8MB
Simpletech 500GH External Hard Drive
Formatted FAT32 with acronis dish director suite
Plug in and it recognize right away, record and play back SD/HD/mpeg2/mpeg4 without any problem. When accessing HDD while in sleep mode, it take 1-2sec for the hd8000 to wake up the HDD, but it working perfectly
SimpleTech Part #: SP-U35/500
Capacity: 500 GB
Interface: USB2.0
Form Factor: 3.5 inches
Rotational Speed: 7200 RPMs
Buffer Size: 8192 KB
Buffalo 250G (Sata inside) USB2
Vantec USB 2.0 full size drive enclosure with WD320GB or WD500GB 7200 RPM IDE drives
Seagate FreeAgent Pro 750GB
SEAGATE 500G 7200rpm
Vantec Nexstar 3 SATA ESATA USB 2.0 NST-360SU-BL
Seagate 250 GB HD SATA II
Kingston 1Gb data traveler DTI/1GB
comstar (not platinum) model number: CO-HDE1-1TB 1.0TB external USB 2.0 Hard drive
Beyond Micro / Mobile / 250GB / 7200 / 8MB
Enermax Laureate enclosure with a WD hard drive
Seagate Barrac 10 ST3500630A from fly in my old Maxter One Touch, formated with sv8k, working perfectly.

Re: report your pvr results here
I am using LaCie 500G, just plug in and hit record and works- but no REC icon on screen shows up as it says in menu.
Also seems to screw up my EPG can not exit info section properly.
Can not make new folders to seperate sports from movies etc, while i did make new folder i have no way of placing any movies in them- so i have to navigate through hundreds of titles to find what i want to replay.
Sometimes while watching a show the icon on the receiver is on even though i was not viewing something or recording, but acts as if i was and i can't exit or change channels, then screen will go black or i have to do a hard reboot.
I can not view other channels while recordind - there might be 10 channels i can view but they are weird channels i have never seen before. But sometimes i can record a porno and view the rest of the porno channels and sometimes they are all black.
Lately i noticed the hard drive making a louder noise then usual, not sure if it is because it is almost full.
Not all that sure if i am happy with the resultsof my hard drive- but i do like the fact i can record while i sleep and watch my programs at my own leisure and fast forward the garbage. But if my car ran like this i would return it.

Re: report your pvr results here
You can add this one to the list of NOT working:
Western Digital My Passport Essential WDME2500TN 250GB USB 2.0 Black External Hard Drive
I was able to use the following:
Freeagent 500GB Barracuda 7200 USB 2.0 3.5E 8MB
I attempted to format the Western Digital w/SV8000HD & using swissknife to no avail.
The Barracuda was easily formatted and used by the SV8000HD.

Re: report your pvr results here
Atttempted to use a Acomdata 504 drive. Locks up both the drive and H8000. I recorded several movies and it stopped working and she deleted ALL files.

Re: report your pvr results here
Has anyone else encountered a strange 'Booting' issue? I bought a Buffalo 1TB DriveStation (2x500) and so far it seems to work alright. I plugged it into the 8000 and selected format and things seemed to be fine. I can record and playback shows/movies in both SD and HD and am even able to fast forward and rewind w/o any issues. The problem I'm having is that, for whatever reason, my receiver appears to be rebooting itself and then hangs on the boot screen. I tried another receiver and it's the same result. It will work fine and I will set movies and shows to record then, the next day or in some cases several days later I will come down to the theater to see that the display on the 8000 reads 'Booting' and this is where it has hung for many hours or days. I had a 250gb HDD in another enclosure connected to a receiver in our bedroom and it never did this random reboot issue but the drive had other issues as I wasn't once able to replay a recorded program w/o it freezing and corrupting the file. I'm thinking that something is triggering the receiver in the theater to reboot (what I'm not exactly sure) and for some reason it's trying to boot from the external HDD as if it were a bootable or primary drive. I know if my flash drive is in and it reboots it will load the menu w/o any issue as if it were an extended drive or something.
So, has anyone else had this problem? Is it my enclosure or ?? What is causing the receiver to reboot no matter which one of my 8000's I have in place? It must have something to do with the Buffalo as that's the only constant but I can't seem to figure out why the HDD enclosure would cause a random reboot like that. I plan to pull the two 500's out and try them individually in separate receivers but ideally this other one would work. I tried to use SwissKnife to set the Buffalo to Extended so if it trigger a reboot during a recording (assuming that's when it's doing it) I would lose that program but not the next scheduled recordings. If it wasn't for this random and odd issue this 1TB would be perfect for my needs.
