Channel Master for SV8000
c/p written by trogcamera:
Channel Master for SV8000
Basic use of Channel Master 1.19.01 for SV8K
Just a basic quicky to get you started if you have not used Channel Master.
Best to start with a clean receiver and fresh scan....So do a factory default scan sats and upload Chan bin to usb stick....Name this channel bin "original scan" ...you can reload it to receiver later if you want to go back to original
Create an easy to locate folder on pc for channel files and templates and place your original scan bin into it
Open Channel Master click file - import - wizard - select format Sonicview SV-HD8000 - next - navigate to original scan bin - open - next - next - next.
Now you have your original scan in channel Master......expand the left hand widow to the right so you can see the satellite names.....now you are going to delete all your unwanted satellites (dont delete too fast or you may crash program).. highlight the sat at the top then press keyboard delete keep deleting until you get to 148 W leave it in.....now scroll down to one below 61.5 highlight it and delete to the end.
Now you have only all the sats from 61.5w to 148w delete any of thise you dont have use for
Now you are going to start on your channels
Selecting any satelite on left displays its channels in the right window
The 10th header box in channel window is the SID box expand it enough to see the SID...if you click the SID header you sort by SID assending or decending
Dbl clicking any channel opens channel properties window where you will change name if you want...dont change any other data or that channel will not work.
For transponders click + beside sat to expand its TP list.....select any TP to display its channels
Click + beside Favorites to expand dbl click a fav to display settings....type = user auto sort by = channel number then type nameof fav in name box instead of Fav 1 etc
Name your HD Fav maybe DN HD & Bev HD or if your a motor user one HD list for each HD sat.
For the DN HD Fav list select a sat....lets say 110w expand the tp list then click then highlight the tp's with 21500 symbol rate to display its channel for group select and send to a fav list.
When you are all done deleting sats, deleting channels, editing channel names, and making fav lists you need to do three things ---- Create a template ----Export your edited channel list ........Make a Blank sat file.
Create a template------ Tools - Create Template
Export edited channel list bin --File - Export - Wizard - Next -click Next tab here - browse to folder name & save - Next - Next.
Make a blank sat file-----select each satellite (hilight) then shift click sellect all channels - delete
when you have delete all channels export it as a channel list bin same as you exported your edited channel list
Name it Blank sat file or something
Your exported edited channel list is loaded on your receiver.
Your blank sat file is for loading onto receiver to delete all your channels on receiver for rescan without having to redo your dish settings or motor settings
Your created template will be applied to your next scan in channel master to do all the work for you----naming channels and making fave lists ......only thing it wont do is delete any of the channels you may have deleted this tine and name newly found channels or put those new channels in fav lists...thats the only editing you will have to do for future fresh scans.
When you close down Channel Master at end of editing choose no for saving changes.
When you rescan in the future and import new scan into CM fist apply your created temlate from this edit session then after you have completed your next edit create a new template to apply to your next scan and discard the old one.

Re: Channel Master for SV8000
here is another tip for this section:
"Now you have your original scan in channel Master......expand the left hand widow to the right so you can see the satellite names.....now you are going to delete all your unwanted satellites (dont delete too fast or you may crash program).. highlight the sat at the top then press keyboard delete keep deleting until you get to 148 W leave it in.....now scroll down to one below 61.5 highlight it and delete to the end.
Now you have only all the sats from 61.5w to 148w delete any of thise you dont have use for"
he is very correct here as well.
even with this units kick ars "sat fav" feature.its still very nice to ditch those birds that you know you will never use.especially all the E (east) birds.as you couldn't hit those birds in North America anyway.so at least ditch those.
but the tip i wanted to share that iv been doing for years also.
you can take a bird in channel master and drag and drop where you want it!
yeah,slick uh!
so slide each of the birds up to the top while your at it.when you do this, you probably wont even use the "sat fav" feature.-tho i think thats so very nice anyway.
also remember whats so great is you don't have to do this all at once!just keep dressing up your list a little at a time.
just remember when your done,to make a new template.
remember you don't really care all that much about your current list.the upgraded templates that you keep dressing up and making nicer is what counts.(tho of course keep loading them as you go,to make sure its setup how you like it)because those will turn every future brand new scan into a carbon copy of your perfectly setup list!
templates and channel master totally rule! so have fun!

Re: Channel Master for SV8000
ok i didn't see this tip covered here either.and this is a VERY nice tip, that can of course save hours.
remember,no matter what you do.and this is using channel master law #1
save your last perfectly working list somewhere on your pc OTHER than where you normally work with your trial lists.just make a folder in your documents or something called sonicview 8000 last hard copy.
trust me,just do it lol.
now, keep that updated regularly also of course, but only when your 100% sure of it.
(don't even be afraid to make a backup of this backup in the same place that you only update like every 6 months.)
another tip is,don't feel like your stuck with picking a template.
you can apply all kinds of them to one list!
long channel name templates etc etc.
the more and more you experiment and try other things, the more and more comfortable and more knowledgeable with channel master you will be.
while im thinking about it,here is another tip.you can open 2 channel master lists and you can drag and drop channels/sat lists right over to one another!!!yeah,iv had some real fun with that.very nice.so keep playing.
the more you setup and perfect your favs/locks/ratings/diseqc settings/etc.etc.the more you will enjoy your fta receiver as a whole.and with templates, you can make a carbon copy channel list when you apply them to brand new scans! so don't be afraid to spend hours and hours, because you will have it forever!
