Power Outage Issues (and some channel master help)good tips for all 8k users here

the power for my house was out for about 6 hours today (electric company working on the lines). when it came back on i turned on the tube and everything to watch some TV and the SV8k is not showing any sats. it was fine this morning. i knew the power company was coming around so i unplugged like everything in the house. when i got home, plugged everything back in and now i am not even showing signal on 119, 110, 91, 82, or 61.5....is this common? what should i do? i don't want to start rippin thru changing settings or anything....i was thinking i might need to be patient...what is the good word? how do i get the birds to come home?

double check your antenna settings.
save your list to usb.
factory default.
reload list.
saving the list,actually saves all antenna settings/user settings etc.

try that for starters.

do i also reload the latest fix? i am assuming so

when you say save your list do you mean go to the USB...put in formatted flash drive, and hit the button that says "upload channels" is that all i do or is there something else?

no need to reload file.factory default doesn't do anything to that.

and yup.just save to usb like you stated.
this is just a quick test to see if it works.its worth the try.
you may have to factory default and rescan tho.but hopefully that wakes her up as it only takes a couple mins.
if you have done allot of channel editing and this test doesn't work,just let me know and show ya how to make and apply a template to your new scan,and be like like nothing happened.
just don't lose that list!

funny i just went walking over to it and it must have seen me comming...all of a sudden the picture and sound came up....well it just died...i will try it now...

like that i am back up and running...you are the man!!
so i am going to save these setting on my CPU in a safe spot in case i need them in the future.
now i am curious about my channel list...can i hit the menu button, go to channel list, and delete channels i don't want...like Spanish channels or knitting channels....does that ruin anything? what about duplicate channels...i have about 15 ESPN2 for example....they are are listed as the same channel number....no idea why there are so many...does it matter which one i delete? is there a benefit to do all this work? or is it smarter to just put all the channels i want in a FAV and be done with it? can you edit the name of the FAV list from FAV-1 to MOVIES or something?

cool.i had a feeling that would do it.
ok first about freezing issue.this is not on your end.all sv users having same prob.so don't worry about that.

ok,now on to some deeper things that your going to really enjoy.

download channel master.and read the how to guide with sv 8k.its a sticky thread.
this will teach you the basics.

also,you have many of the same channel now because of a feature "auto tp".
this is great.but over time it can and does = a mess of false/dead channels too.
so yeah,it matters which one you keep.

yes.you can rename your favs to anything you want.both with the stb itself OR with channel master.

have you spent many hours setting up a channel list? with all kinds of favs/locks etc yet?
it doesn't sound like you have.so go ahead and do a factory default sometime,and perform a brand new scan once you enter your antenna settings.
use channel master and or your stb to set all your locks/favs etc.also set your user settings.go ahead and load back and forth as you wish,altering and deleting anything you wish.just be sure when your done,to save the finished list from the sv to your usb.

check out the guide for most everything,and feel free to ask along the way how to do each step or anything you find trouble with.
once complete,your going to make a channel template.this saves everything so that you can simply apply it to all your brand new scans latter saving you all those hours of setting up the perfect channel list.

i have spent SOME time setting up some fav...but not HOURS...maybe one hour...OK so i need to go down load channel master and start to play...then factory default blind scan and start picking thru...when i was starting to set up before, i noticed a lot of channels that had audio and no video...i figured those were scrambled in that new way that we cant read...or was i on the wrong TP as you mentioned? so i should not delete channels from the channel setup menu? i should use channel master and do it that way? and just ignore the channel list setup in the STB menu?
i will go look for the link on channel master now and maybe some of this will be answered. thanks a lot!

only do the scan sat/red button for dn/bev birds.
iv adjusted that info in the "idiots guide" as its called.
91w and 82w are now encrypted with n3,which is secure at this time.
yeah,check out the channel master guide in the channel list tools section of the forum for a few of these questions first.its not needed,in fact you could use just the sybs edit tools and then save the new list to usb.i use a combo of both.just be sure when your done,to make the template,not before,that's all.
once you figure out the basics,just get a yell.

p.s.thats an older guide.but helps with basics.pay no attention to the NID/TID part.stbs have long since been updated to not have to mess with those.

ok...i have already blind scanned....so how do i back out of everything i have and start fresh with just the red scan sat button? wouldnt that lose a lot of "clutter"? and save some time?
