How can I combine OTA/Cable input w/satellite input on a single SV8000?
Someone mentioned a diplexer but wouldn't the share the same frequency anyway? I have a cable line and a satellite line at each location. One of my plasmas has a tuner built in so I can watch the cable on it (HD locals) but I can't use the SV8000 to DVR and I can't watch it at the other locations since other plasmas and projector don't have a tuner. I do have SV8000's at each location though and I see there's an option to scan DTV so I assume this is possible. Do they both go on the same input on the back of the SV8000 or do I leave my satellite input where it is and use one of the other open spots on the rear? I tried one but no dice.
How do I do this? Has anyone been able to accomplish this successfully? With the locals and most of the satellite being down it would help a lot of I could pipe both feeds into the SV8000 so be able to watch/DVR locals.
Thanks for the help.

Re: How can I combine OTA/Cable input w/satellite input on a single SV8000?
Use the RCA cables or HDMI cable with your SV and hook the OTA antenna coax input straight to TV. Format your TV to input 2 and the SV to input 1. There should be the options in your TV menu...

Yep...JC just said it right.
And just plug the OTA cable on the ATSC input

How? How is this even possible when I don't have a tuner?
I'm wanting to use the tuner inside the SV8000 for BOTH satellite as well as my OTA/Cable channels. This way I can not only DVR local programming but I can also watch OTA/Cable channels on devices that don't have a tuner. Is this possible?

Re: How can I combine OTA/Cable input w/satellite input on a single SV8000?
I don't think this is possible Buddy. I have mine hooked up exactly like I posted, but I am pretty sure you can't record OTA with the tuner in the SV-8000. There is just no way to route the signal through the tuner to record...

Re: How can I combine OTA/Cable input w/satellite input on a single SV8000?
This is something we did with our Dish receivers over 5 years ago so I just assumed it was something easily done with today's technology too. Why is there an ATSC input on the rear as well as an option to scan DTV if I can't use the tuner inside the SV8000 for OTA or cable TV?

Re: How can I combine OTA/Cable input w/satellite input on a single SV8000?
well thats is out of my knowledge but i think is because they dont use the same freq or same something like that.
Can not see those signals working in the same tuner.

So what's the point of a tuner labeled ATSC? Do you know what you're talking about or are you just guessing? I can guess what I was looking for here is someone who actually knows. Not to seem short but I get tired of asking specific questions or trying to have specific conversations with people and getting people who have no idea what they're talking about guessing at an answer and wasting more of my time.

Easy Buddy, no need to disrespect me. All I can say, I have never done what you are asking. Test it and see. If it doesn't work, then you'll have your answer. It definitely will not hurt the STB. Take this as a friendly warning, don't disrespect me again...

How did I disrespect you? I was honest and upfront about what I was looking for and what help I was requesting. I've tried plugging it in and got nowhere. I was looking for help from people who have actually done this or who actually know, not people guessing because that's not getting me anywhere. If you think that's disrespect you need to relax because all I'm doing with any of this is stating exactly what I'm looking for so if you feel disrespected that's your own problem. I'm a mod on quite a few forums that have been around quite a bit longer than this one with quite a few more members and I can tell you that I wouldn't have taken offense to what was said.

Re: How can I combine OTA/Cable input w/satellite input on a single SV8000?
Since your a MOD at several other sites, why did you come to ABA for answers. I can only assume, the info you get here is far better than the other sites you MOD at. No one has a answer for every problem and issue that members have, thats why we test. When you figure it out, come back and tell all of us, and then other members can learn from your testing...

You know there's other forums out there than FTA forums, right? That's why I'm here (and a couple other FTA forums) to get answers and help people with what I know. The 'you don't work for me' line is a bit of a reach because if you did work for me and I asked for help you wouldn't come to me with a bunch of guesses, would you? I would probably also ask someone who knew for sure which is what I was trying to do with this thread.
When you're just guessing I don't see it as helping. I see it as a waste of time when I type specifically what I'm looking for. I even said I was looking for people who know for sure or people who have done this specifically. If you don't fit either of those categories then don't answer. It's that easy. If you want to help and you don't know then don't answer. That's helping more than guessing because I can do that fine all by myself. In fact, I'm pretty good at figuring most things out which is why when I create a thread specifically looking for help I'm very descriptive and precise about what I'm looking for and I try to request help from those that know to avoid wasting anyone's time. Which is all we're doing now.

As I've already stated, FTA are not the only forums out there. I'm talking about car forums, motorcycle forums.... all sorts of forums and the forums I'm a mod on over over 100,000 members and have been around for a decade or so. I only say that so you'll stop treating me like a peon. I never disrespected you and I would appreciate you treating me with some form of respect as well.
As for figuring it out and coming back.... how do I know this hasn't been done already? Why continue trying to figure something fairly simple out before posting to see who else is doing this or who else has already done it? That just doesn't make sense.

Re: How can I combine OTA/Cable input w/satellite input on a single SV8000?
So, to try to get this topic back on track: Has anyone else done this or attempted to do it first hand and either found it to be possible or not possible? If you were successful what did you do? Did you run a diplexer into the same input or did you use the ATSC input for the OTA/cable? Were you able to integrate the guide and DVR programming from these channels?

Do both of us a favor and when you see my threads.... just keep going. I don't understand what you're saying and half of it seems like you're being immature trying to insult me. If you aren't then it's not coming through very good in English but you certainly have been nothing but a distraction. I'm sure you'll feel disrespected by that statement but all I'm doing is trying to avoid confrontation since you clearly have nothing to offer me in the form of help. I'm not here to make friends or be insulted I'm here to figure stuff out and help others. I have no time for whatever it is you're doing here.

Re: How can I combine OTA/Cable input w/satellite input on a single SV8000?
I've used the ATSC input for OTA HD antenna input. It DOES work for antenna but with a quirk... Can't test cable as I sub with Starchoice. I have no idea why, but the OTA scan seems to work better with the factory file. The trick is to scan for ota (I believe it's labelled DTV in the menu..) with the factory file loaded. Save the channel list. Re-load current file yo stb, then combine your channel lists with an editor on a computer. Reload channel list to stb and you should be able to tune in your ota channels with the latest file. I do hope this is helpful and good luck!
