Re: report your pvr results here
My post from Oct. sounded a bit negative, but I am happy to report things seem better now. PVR behavior seems to have improved since then. Must have been improved in a recent BIN, I don't know. Anyway, here are some good observations.
First of all scheduled recording seems to be working better. It now records MOST of my schedule shows, though it misses sometimes. File names doen't always use the filename I set up on the event, but use the channel name instead. Annoying that saved shows appear in random order on the list with no date displayed on the list.
Possible bug -- It seems that if two events are schedule back-to-back on different channels, it will miss recording the second event.
Watch saved show while recording:
---------------------------------
Try this. Hit the RECORD button to record the current show. Now hit the BLUE button. Takes you to the saved show list. You can now watch a previously recorded show while current show continues recording.
Skip commercials:
-----------------
While watching a saved show you can skip commercials like this:
While watching a saved show press the PLAY button. Red graph appears on screen. Hold down the CHANNEL RIGHT button to shuttle forward. The graph has a time display to tell you how far you've gone. Hold down CHANNEL LEFT to back up. When done press EXIT to get rid of the the graph.
OR
While watching a saved show press PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN to skip forward or backward 2 minutes. I find this method less effective.
ThHe PVR functionality is not perfect but it is quite usable. And of course overall the HD8000 is a killer machine.

Re: report your pvr results here
c/p:
SUCCESS with SimpleTech - 1TB !!!!
-I bought the Simpletech 1 TB SP-U35/1TBB SIMPLEDRIVE (96300-41001-120). I payed $99.99 after a search on the net
-I unpacked it out of the box, plugged it in, the 8000 did not recognized it. I formatted it on the receiver (took about 2 minutes), scanned it (took about 5 minutes), Receiver showed 1000.20 GB available. I immediately tried recording. It worked successfully first try.
-I played back the recording - it played perfectly.
I love it. I highly recommend it. I'm Recording like a maniac.
Life is beautiful !!!!
Thank you to everyone. You helped solve my problems.
there is a slight lag in accessing the drive for the "menu" of recordings and about 6-7 second lag with no sound when you first hit the play button. You only lose sound for those few seconds when you start playback. After that everything is working perfect. For the $100 price tag this is excellent !!! Those minor things are insignificant when you compare it to the 1000 GB space to record!!
end c/p
added to list of working hdd's in post #2.

Re: report your pvr results here
SV8000 V2
Seagate Free Agent Desk 1TB
I just started testing it,
Needed to be formated by the STB to be recognized.
First recording was small, (3min) Showed the name of the show in the list.
Second recording was also small, (10min) Showed the name of the show in the list.
I found a small glitch when recording a show and watching a recording. When I stopped watching a recording the screen went black. The STB said USB Menu so I hit the menu button on the remote again and everything came back on.
The third recording was 20 min long and was tested to make sure that the blackout during the second recording did not affect it.
All three recordings worked well, including showing the program name instead of the station like others have experienced.
They showed like this
Name:-------------------------- Size:----------------------- Duration
Speed Racer The Next-------- 77.77MB --------------------- 00:03
Speed Racer The Next_1 -----147.65MB ---------------------00:10
Speed Racer The Next_2----- 337.85MB -------------------- 00:20
There is a slight lag in the sound on some recordings but nothing major and it doesnt happen all the time.
Except a couple minor glitch's. So far the Seagate 1TB is working like a champ.

Re: report your pvr results here
I'm successfully running Samsung 1TB HD103SI (dual 500gb platters) Eco/green internal drives (5400RPMs) on three of my SV-HD800's. The primary reason for running these was that I suspected the heat generated by my previous drives spinning at 7200RPMs is what caused a couple of them to fail early along with cheap SATA to USB adapters. I was running Rosewell or whatever they are called (Cheap $10 adapter kits) and they smoked two 500gb HDDs so be VERY careful about running them. I instead replaced all three with units from Newegg.com and while they are $25 each they are MUCH nicer than the Rosewell ones and I think they will last much longer. The drives should save a few pennies on electricity over the year too. I also transferred about 300gb from the sole surviving 500gb HDD to each of the three 1TB drives I have. Took about 4hrs per drive but was well worth it especially now that DN is down and the iHub servers are down as well because I have plenty to watch at each location.
Here's a screen shot proving the Samsung works:

Re: report your pvr results here
Most touchie device I have had in a long time. It just seems like if/when the 8000 wants to, it will allow it to work. If it does not, it will not work. Makes no difference what you try to do. If my cable DVR worked that bad, charter would have gotten it back very soon! But, when it does work, it works very well.......
