now here's something else to consider.
1. warranty.if your under warranty still, you can simply send it in for repair.
2.if your out of warranty, and not sure you want to do this,OR if you decide the tools required are about equal to the new board cost, you may just want to order a new board.you can contact sonicviewusa and order a power supply board for about $30 (at time of post) ask about shipping charges as well of course.so that's a pretty inexpensive solution as well for many.just so you guys know.
it appears to very easy to do for even the novice or advanced though.
and i suppose what are you out if you mess up the board? just the cost of the caps lol.cus if your doing this anyway, you need a repaired board or a new one anyway.so don't be afraid to brake something thats already broke.

Just remember the shipping costs to send it and SV requests $25 for return shipping costs. (or that's what they requested 1 yr ago). #2 option sounds like the best for me. Thanks everyone.

Re: how to replace capacitors on power supply board.fix no power/stuck on booting
Well... I think I was one of the first SV-8000 owners to have this problem ( http://www.abadss.com/forum/324-sv80...sv-8000hd.html) ...After tons of posts and lots of help from Arb and Peggy13, We kind of figured the box was fried...almost a year and a half later, I finally found this post and started thinking about my 8000 again
(especially now that the I-Hub is being introduced) well this afternoon, I went to the local radio shack and tackled something I truly hate, soldering circuit boards. Thanks to all of your help, My long dead SV-8000 has been resurrected... It is now a Ferocious Zombie, back from the dead and kickin' much A**... Thank you everyone, I really did miss this STB, and I hope to be picking up an IHUB tomorrow -Pete (a.k.a. mookapyro)

Re: how to replace capacitors on power supply board.fix no power/stuck on booting
I wish I had seen this post a few months back as it would have saved me lots of footwork and figuring this out myself. I had two boxes fry after less than a year and within a week of each other. It should almost be mentioned that I have wide open areas w/plenty of air flow where these receivers sit and I also have additional cooling fans so I'm leaning towards poor design or poor materials. Either way I was pretty upset to find that it was going to cost me $50 to get two SV receivers repaired that were less than a year old. Instead I decided to trouble shoot, diagnose and repair myself. I have limited soldering experience and even more limited electronics repair but this really wasn't that difficult. The research and trouble shoot was more difficult so with this thread it should be a walk in the park for most. Take your time is the best advice I can give.
Also, I chose to replace ALL of 1000µF capacitors on the board (4 if I recall) while I was at it since if one failed it could just as likely be all 4 that fail if they are from a bad batch or of just poor design. Either way I ordered 50 of them from this site for about $17.00 shipped but it looks like the price has gone up. Either way it's less than what you would pay for 'warranty' work through SV. Hope that helps.

Re: how to replace capacitors on power supply board.fix no power/stuck on booting
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this a 2 on difficulty. The hardest part was finding a radio shack with the parts.
only took about 30 mins and I'm back up testing on CNNHD with the ihub!!!!!!
Thank you very much for this post
