Re: newbie in the house
just a note of info. if you want HD on DN, you need to purchase the 8psk module and have a dish pointed at sat 129. i imagine everyone will go 8psk in the future so worth having, also if it does mpeg 4, another plus.

Re: newbie in the house
The Captain IS a great box @ a cheap price. The SV8000 is way better IMO but it is double the Cap in price. You will want the 8psk board with the SV for DN HD an option the Cap is not capable of.
The Cap is extremely easy to use, but I would go for the SV

Re: newbie in the house
Careful, don't let the sales guy pressure ya. He likely can't sell his CSs to anyone. I don't know that what he said about alot of Captains being returned is true either. He probably is having troubles getting ride of his CS models.
Everyone above seems quite convinced the VS and SV are the way to go.
Ditto here.

Re: newbie in the house
welcome! this site rox! I own a cs8000hd and it sux! latest bin is working but the channel keeps going scambled and coming back every 3-5mins. SUPER ANNOYING! For some reason all of the CS units do this. While other companies receivers do not. So when satallite goes down and CS comes out with a fix it might get you your tv back but you'll be seeing no video every 3-5 minutes on every channel for anywheres from 30 seconds to 5 mins. Which drives you nuts to the point of not even wanting to watch a show anymore. I own a CS5000 and CS8000 and yah they suck :0)
