usb-to-null adapter, will it work?

Do those usb to null cables, you can get on e bay, work with fta boxes? It seems I read something about some one having trouble with them. A bud has a magnum but no nine pin port on his computer. Figured I'd check it out here before he buys one.

yes most work ok, you may have to figure out what com port is assigned to the usb port. also some have reported issues when using with vista.

Do you know if the loader will pick the correct port or if it is trail & error error error error error?
