Hmm,hard one to answer without getting into the whole genre thing,,,,out of the original heavy hitters AKA metal,,I would say Blue Cheer,Mc5,Trouble and of course Black Sabbath,,they all had that deep balsy distorted doom and gloom sound,,,never really thought of AC-DC or Zep as metal,,more hard rock but definitely had huge influence on the metal genre as a whole.Bonham is one of my all time fav drummers(I even play the exact same kit he toured with on Song Remains the Same!!)he showed us drummers how to beat the hell out of a kit!!
