Toni Iommi cut his finger tips off and he made fake finger tips to play on the neck with.with the strings at normal tune the strings were to hard to play with the tips he made so he detuned his strings cause it made playing with his tips easier as the strings were better to manipulate when they were loser and that is were the dirty guitar sound came from so all true metal bands play with detuned guitars giving that crunch sound like korn
