Ok,

I'm 'kicking the tires' on this HD Captain 8000 for a buddy. My buddy doesn't have an HD feed so that's why I agreed to give it a shot. I've got a 6120 HD receiver and HD channels come in ok when connected to my BEV receiver. Quality of pictures blow me away when viewed on my Sony LCD '42.

Here's what I found :

-Had copied latest .bin file on my USB stick. But Captain 8000 never saw it no matter if I used 'MANUAL or SW' as options in setup. Had to use the loader to upload latest BIN through RS232.
-Had some problems finding sats but eventually found the 82 and 91. Did channel scan and got all channels but was not able to recognize any HD channels which are in 8XX range on my 6120 receiver.
-Unit gets very hot in TV stand.
-I knew TSN HD was on 830 but couldn't find channel.
-Colors were vibrant but not clear on non HD channels.
-My Viewsat Ultra provided better picture quality.

As an afterthought I'm wondering if this unit is a 'true blue' HD receiver. I've a suspicion that this unit just 'up-converts' to HD resolution like 1080i. That's why it's so cheap.

If not, what am I doing wrong ? Anybody have any ideas ?
