Okay. I'm looking to purchase the equipment necessary to test keys - the equipment should be the easiest to set up, use, upload to, etc. I have an "old" Sony 36" XBR which has component HD and DVI connections and I have a regular TV, so I'd like to get two sets set up for testing.
I have a 2m ChannelMaster dish I was using for DN until I ran 'em off for jackin' prices during my initial year-long contract, so I guess it's aimed properly (at least for DN). Two cables run to the house from a DSS LNB , BSNA5-218A to a Microyal model 3104, 4-way satellite multi switch then to the TV's. If any of this equipment needs to be tossed, fine.
I have a Windows XP PC driving the Sony TV with component HD from Blu-ray disks and downloads. I put some hot tamale video card in it and it rocks, although in 16:9 mode only (set is a beautiful 4:3 unit).
What should I buy to get into testing?

well you have a great dish for fta.if you where interested, you could get a motor and an invacom qaud lnb.this will get you all kinds of channels.
if you plan on running both stbs at the same time, you may just want to hang another dish,at least for one of the stbs.
you may want to check into the catain 8000hd. (mpeg2hd only)
and also check out the sonicview 8000hd.(mpeg2/4 hd with add on)
whatever fits your budget best.
next, you will want to look into a standard stb.there are all kinds.would need to know if you would want pvr or not,or what other kind of options/features best interest you for that one.such as iks/pvr etc etc.
but theres a few things to ponder.
be sure to check out the receiver reviews section, and see what you like.
