ABADSS Changes & Announcements 6/23/08 - ABA DSS

We've made a few changes to the usergroups and ranking system that I'd like to tell everyone about.

#1. Post counts required to gain stars have been changed. Approximately 2x what they used to be. example - 4 stars is 750, 5 stars is 1,500

#2. Site Helpers title changed to Veteran Member. Post count required to become veteran is 1,500 and 180+ days since you first registered.

#3. New usergroup, "Expert Site Helpers", These are the guys that have proven themselves very helpful in answering FTA related questions and trusted when posting the latest files.

#1 is all setup, #2 & #3 should be finished today/tomorrow.

I think that is great, because I was going to say, I'm not ready to be a "site helper" yet....I don't feel that I'm qualified and I have almost 800 posts. Probably would have had 800 by now, but after the site was cleaned up some went away. Thanks for the great job you are all doing. I appreciate being a part of ABA and will help any way I can, I just want to make sure I can help and know what I'm doing!

(Although I really do like PURPLE...LOL)

Thanks for the updated feedback "ncliff" - that's pretty swift resolution to address the subject matter -debated last week.

I believe that's rationale and consistant to making quality progress as regards the personnel management issues are concered and surely safeguard the over all reliability n integrity of the operational aspect of the site when it comes to perception of a huge membership base that can't be jeoperdized with sub-par service that members have come to expect here @ ABAdss.

Regardless we as fellow members can't emphasise enough about the importance of doing things right in the first place - folks MUST-MUST know what they are doing when it comes to dispensing critical info/uploading sofware n more..so it's only reasonable to have skillful/knowledgable n competant folks do that as required.

If I don't know I would not do that and NO pride lost folks..rather than compromise a situation you regret later..

Thanks for the information - except that I am so sad ... I only just got my last star and now it is gone ... guess I have been riding my pony too quickly and it fell out ........ sniff, sniff, sniff - oh well, the good new is ... I am not a Site Helper anymore, so I don't have to work soooooooo hard ..... Yahoo !!!!

Talk about changes, this afternoon I went up to a third star, ten mins. and two post later, I was back to two stars. Now my points are 6,666 if I lose a 6 that would be plain Devilish.

I really don't know anyone on here too well but I have to make a comment on this name titles thing....

1. It can be a good thing or a bad thing.
2. Good thing is, some people deserve their titles.
3. Bad thing is...as Peggy said, she was not ready to be a helper despite the number of her posts.

Suggestion.....
1. Helpers should be decided on how much they really can help, true knowledge on the specific STB's they are testing, etc..., not how long they've been posting or how many posts they've had. A person can come to this site never having posted before but can be a genius in the field of FTA recievers thus maybe will know more than some people given that title as helper.
2. I think before giving anybody a title of helper, they should be asked because maybe some don't want to be put on the spot as was the case with Peggy, who said she was not ready.
3. The main members on this site should know who knows what by now so titles should be based on what the main members think what title a person should be given, not by amount of posts.

Anyhow, take me for instance...I haven't been here that long but I have gotten to know my CW600s Premium pretty good, I'm a quick learner but I still wouldn't want the title of helper despite how good I get to know my machine....I rather just help anyway I can and when I can.

Anyhow as with everything else in America, you guys/gals should make up a board of people who vote on certain things. Sometimes changes are good and sometimes they are bad. I belong to another forum...sports...and we hate it when they would change things. Just when you got used to one change, along came another....most of the changes to forums aren't really that good.....IMO.

Oh well...these are just suggestions and something to think about.

i agree with cholito's thoughts on number 3. i don't have a high post count, but only because i go to alot of sites and i am a super mod on a couple of them. but i always stop by here usually once a day. and i see no reason to make a post when a question has already been answered. to post something like "you do what so and so told you and you'll be fine
' is a total waste of a post and time and just another way of post whoring. don't get me wrong, i'm not complaining, i love this site, this site helped me so much way back in the beginning of my fta experiences. hell i was so scared of asking a "dumb" question, i used a friends account here for over a year before i registered. jmo

Many factors are involved when choosing Expert Site Helpers, some of the largest are Knowledge and Activity.

They cleaned up a few old post's by deleting them. I lost 300 or so myself.
