Fixes for some problems with your Coolsat

How to Solve Flash Errors &/Or the Night Rider!

Here are a few tips if you are having difficulty flashing:
I would advise everyone to read a set up guide before flashing. But, since people have been having some problems, I have revised this to provide more detailed information. But this is not intended to be a substitute.

1. Make sure you use the proper serial cable for your receiver:
Coolsat + uses a null modem cable and Coolsat Pro uses a straight serial cable

2, With the power turned off, connect it to your computer and receiver using the serial connector. Use serial port #1 if you can.

3. If you do not have a working serial port, you must install one or use a computer that has one.

4. Use the appropriate loader.

5. Select the file. Make sure that it is the correct flash for your receiver.

6. Select the COM port your receiver is connected to. If you do not know, what it is try #1 first.

7. Enter the correct model name and number.

8. Check off the correct function box. Your choices are Firmware, Channel List and Keys. To FLASH your receiver you would use Firmware.

9. Turn on the receiver power from the back switch.

10. As soon as you see the lights flash -- press download.

11. Wait until it completes and reboots.

12. Download a channel list and wait until it reboots and comes to a channel number.

13. If you get an error, you either have not entered an incorrect Bin in stb type, such as or you have a serial error (see #15 below).

14. You may have to use one of these Bins, choose the correct one for your model:
1.28 Improve EPG Flash for Coolsat and AC3 Fix (Note; you will need the new Channel Master version to have the AC3 feature to work.
1.29 Coolsat Flash (Note; This Bin is for the use of Xcrypt CAS embedded for Free X TV for T-5)

The 100 and the 1.20 are Factory Flash and are available in the Downloads Section

15. Or you have a COM port problem.

A. It may be as simple as you may not have selected to the right COM port on the loader. You must choose the serial port that matches the one on your computer that is actually connected the receiver.

B. Or the COM port may be defective.

C. Or the cable may be the wrong type or be defective.

-----Here is how to diagnose and resolve a COM port problem-----

A. First, Try selecting a different COM port on the loader. If you tried #1, then select COM #2 and flash. If this does not work, then try COM 3.

B. Try changing the connection to the COM port for the cable. Most computers have at least two COM ports.

C. Make sure you have the correct cable type. See #1, above. Does your receiver require a straight-through cable or a crossover cable? They look the same but the wrong cable will not work!

D. The cable could be defective. Try another cable of the correct type.

17. If all else fails, try a different computer. Some computers do not have properly working serial ports (COM Ports).

-----Here is how to recover from the "Night Rider" (flashing lights)-----

1. Try re-flashing the factory boot/flash again using the above directions. That gives you FTA ONLY. Follow the above procedure.

2. Then, when that works use the latest flash to get the scrambled channels.

3. Download a channel list and/or do a channel scan on each sat.

4. When flashing, be sure to wait not only until is says done. But you need to wait until it reboots and actually goes to a channel number.

Sometimes it is a bad, "dirty" or corrupt channel list:

If you have the Night Ryder Syndrome, try doing this;

1. Reflash the latest flash for your receiver.

2. Reload a good channel list to replace the bad one.

That is all you need to do to fix this problem!

Often a failure to stay on is the result of a shorted LNB or cable to the LNB's. So here is how to trouble shoot and fix that:

1. Turn your receiver's power off or disconnect it from the AC.

2. Disconnect from your receiver either the cable to your switch or the cable(s) to the LNB('s) from your receiver. Now no wires from the LNB will be connected to your receiver.

3. Restore the power and turn on the unit, if it works powers up and stays on, One of your connections, wires to the LNB or an LNB is bad.

4. Find the problem by visually inspecting them or using an ohm meter to detect a short.

5. Or you can replace them one by one until you find the bad one.

6. But do this with the power off because you can blow your receiver and/or LNB's by connecting them to a receiver that is plugged in.

If this does not resolve the problem, it probably is a flash or corrupted channel list problem, which are covered above:
You may have a bad channel list as well so try loading a different list.

-----Audio/Video Edit for Coolsat-----

If you are having a problem with the sound or video of some channels, you may edit those
channels in Channel Master using Lyngsat packages North & South America - LyngSat Packages

Open a new window for the link above and follow the instruccions
1 Choose your destination, or satellite, and click the provider in the 3rd column. You will be abble to see what is on that satellite.
2 You will look for the channel you're having problems with and will locate the SID, VPID and the APID.

Note; If you are confused because you can't find the channel go here North & South America - LyngSat Packages locate the receiver that channel is on and go to the 5th column (the SID row) click on that, and you be able to see the channels by channel #'s in order.

Since you know whats the TP that channel is on go back to the Lyngsat packages North & South America - LyngSat Packages

3 Find the TP and look for the channel on that TP.
4 Once you have found the channel you need to get the SID, VPID and the APID.
5 Now it's up to you to Edit your channel List or Channel Master filling the SID, VPID and the APID in the editor.

Note: You can do this using your Coolsat but it won't save the new data.

Using your Coolsat to fix the audio and/or video not relate it to Scramble Channels due to change of Encryption

1 Go to the Menu screen
2 Go to Channels
3 Go to Edit Channels, look for the channel you having problem with and click OK ( look at the attach picture )

Now you need to fill the correct SID, VPID and the APID using Lyngsat North & South America - LyngSat Packages
4 After you put in those #'s click OK and Exit

-----No signal with EchoStar 7 (119)-----

Here I will give you some tips related it with the manual.

TP #1 is the default transponder on each satellite in Dish Setup. Since TP #1 for 119 is 12224 (R) is inactive for some areas (Spot Beam) there will be no signal quality for 119 on TP #1. Delete TP #1 and TP #2 will move up and become the default TP in Dish Setup and you will receive a good quality reading in Dish Setup.[/quote]

How you can do this, simple.

Go to the Menu
1 Installation
2 Manual Scan
3 Frequency (12.224 GHz) This is optional (Press the yellow Botton and you will able to get signal) or instead of deleting the TP just move the TP to the right/left using your remote.
Make sure the set up in your STB looks like this:

LNB Setting

119.0ºW EchoStar 7
LNB Power--------------- ON
LNB Type----------------- OCS-DP (for DP LNBs) and Single (For Legacy LNBs)
LNB Freq----------------- 11.250
22khz--------------------- OFF
DiSEqC Switch---------- 1.0 (Depends the one you have)
Committed--------------- 1
Legacy SW--------------- OFF ( Depends if you have older LNBs)

110.0ºW EchoStar 6,8

LNB Power--------------- ON
LNB Type----------------- OCS-DP (for DP LNBs) and Single (For Legacy LNBs)
LNB Freq----------------- 11.250
22khz--------------------- OFF
DiSEqC Switch---------- 1.0 (Depends the one you have)
Committed--------------- 2
Legacy SW--------------- OFF ( Depends if you have older LNBs)

-----How to Fix the Freezing Screen-----
Note; this won't fix it permanently, is temporarily. Every time the Keys change you will have to repeat this process.

After the keys change got into effect and the autoroll get you the new keys, go and enter channel 8282 and small window will appear. This is where you change the keys manually as you see.
We need to change the first 3 windows of numbers or letters.( First Row )

1 Ok go to the first windows of #'s and letters and change the second digit for the number or letter that follow for example if it say 47 then you change it to 48, if it say BC you change it to BD.
Note; Due to Hexadecimal Format if the number you have to change end up at 9 in this case you will change it to A and not 0. Here are 2 examples if it say 49 or A9 then you change it to 4A or AA, Same if the numbers say for example 8F then you will have to put 90
2 When you are done just Exit and you set

Master Password and Default password
Master Password is 0103
Default Password is 0000

-----How to turn off Password Protection-----

1 Go to Menu using your remote control
2 Select System Setting
3 Select Security Setting
4 Select Install Lock - OFF
5 Exit and Save

-----How to load a Coolsat using another Coolsat-----
1 Use a Modem nule cable ( Note; is not the same cable you use to program your STB from your Computer )
2 Go to Menu in the box connected to the TV
3 Select System Settings
4 Turn on and plug together the two Coolsat receivers usin the modem cable
5 If you want to load both, Channel List and Firware start first loading the Fimware (Bin)
6 Once the download is in process wait untill is 100% complete then Turn off the slave receiver and remove the nule cable and you are set.

Good Luck and happy testing

Dump the bin file from PC & reload again from here. (it might be corrupted)
Be sure you unzip/extract the bin file & the loader prior to use.
Be extra sure you are using the correct bin file for your unit.
See if any of these things help...
