Getting Ready To Flash Your Coolsat

Locate the 2.4Coolsat loader & recent Flash, Those can be found in the files
section of the forum.

If you're going to use a channel list, it's recommended that you find one
that closely matches your setup, is from your area, and it is saved in .ndf
format. Download all required files and unzip before attempting to flash to
your Receiver.

There are different ways you can flash your receiver. You don't need any
connections to the Receiver other than a RS232 serial cable for Flashing!
You may flash the unit with or without the other cables connected! It's your
personal preference! Just make sure that you power down before
connecting\disconnecting any cable. This practice could limit the
possibility of causing damage to the Switch, LNB, or receiver!

Some instructions recommend you Flash the unit and turn ON back switch only!
This is mainly recommended to prevent premature disaster. This is a good
method to use when flashing your unit, with the unit being disconnected from
the LNB cable.

IF you leave your unit connected to the TV and LNB cable when flashing, it's
preferred to turn ON the back switch and front power button. This gives you
access to the menu, so you can do the factory set and continue to load the
channel list without having to connect the unit between flashes! You must
let the receiver fully boot up before flashing.

If you suspect anything wrong with your LNB's, Switch, or LNB cable then
disconnect the LNB cable. Voltage feedback from a short could fry your
receiver.

Coolsat 5000 Platinum requires a RS232-Straight through serial Cable!

Coolsat 4000 Pro requires a RS232-Straight through Serial Cable!

Coolsat 4000 Plus requires a RS232-Null Modem Cable!]

USB to Serial Adapter will work; make sure you configure your settings in
your computer and loader! You may also use a Gender Changer to convert your
cable as needed! All Cables must be Female to Female!

Loading your Coolsat!!

You can flash your receiver over any existing bin. I choose to save my
current channel list and perform a database reset- factory set before
loading a new bin. If you are to start fresh, those steps are not needed. Be
sure to use a Mod approved BIN that is current and is made for the correct
receiver! There are bins for the 4000 & 5000!

1.) Turn OFF back switch on Receiver, then hook up the RS232 standard serial
cable.

2.) Turn ON the back switch of Receiver, then power ON using your remote,
let your receiver fully boot up.

3.) Open your Coolsat 2.4 loader. By default the loader will open in the
"software" tab,
Make sure "to receiver" is checked, then click on "browse" and locate your
unzipped flash you previously downloaded.

4.) Change your Comport setting if needed and click on "Auto Detect", a
window will open showing your previous Flash and active comport.

--If your getting an error, "Connect your Receiver" then check to make sure
your receiver is connected and back switch is ON, make sure your using the
proper RS232-Cable. You can reboot your pc and see if it helps!

--If you're getting an Error "Invalid File" then more then likely you're
using the wrong bin, or you haven't unzipped the file!

--If you are getting Comport Switching then check the device manager in your
pc and set an active comport!

5.) If everything is ok click on "connect", a window will open displaying
the current Flash in the receiver, then click "start".

6.) You will see the loader go through a couple different stages ---system
reset---sending to 100%---sending ok 100%---then Erase until 50%, and write
to 100% DO NOT INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS!! If you must for some reason then it's
better to do it before the writing process!

7.) Your receiver will display FFFF and reboot when finished. A window will
open in the loader displaying "Finish" it's always good to wait 5-10 sec's
before clicking finish.

8.) Now click on "Finish", a window will open displaying your previous
Flash, close the window and click on "Auto Detect" now you will see the
current Flash just loaded!

You have just flashed your receiver and if you are going to load a channel
list then don't disconnect anything just proceed to the next steps "Factory
set" "Installation Options" then "Loading channel list"

Other wise turn off front power button & back switch, unhook your RS232
cable or leave the RS232 cable connected for next time, it's your personal
preference.

FACTORY SET!!

You must do a Factory Set after loading a new flash. This will properly
initialize and replace your previous flash with the new one just loaded. If
this is a new receiver setup then you will notice the Nimiq 1,3 or Nimiq 2
sats are not in your satellite list until a Factory Set is completed. The
Facory Set will load the default channel data contained in the bin software.
The default data contains satellite information including names and
transponder frequency's. The Epg is dependant on this information and will
work best when this is done.

1.) Push Menu on remote
2.) System Setting
3.) Database Reset
4.) Factory Set and press OK on remote.

The Factory Set will delete all channels and settings. After doing the
Factory Set you will need to pick a language and go to Dish Setting and
configure your setup! Once done then proceed to Auto Scan and scan with
Network Search on

DISH SETTINGS!!

This is very important to know your dish setup, Lnb(s) and switch(s) being
used. If you do not know this info then proceed to the bottom of this manual
and there are links to help you determine which setup type you have! One
easy way to determine which type of lnb(s) you have is to look at the label,
if you see a DP logo or Dishpro logo then you have Dishpro Lnb's, if you do
not see this logo then most likely it's a Legacy Lnb. Next would be to look
at the # of ports on the Lnb.

1.) Push Menu on remote
2,) Go to Installation and if prompted to enter a password use 0000 or 0103
(master Pin)
3.) Go to Dish Setting and choose your satellite to be setup.

Legacy Single or Dual LNB's using a 4x1 Diseqc switch:

Echostar 7 --119.0W
LNB Power: on
LNB Type: Single
LNB Frequency: 11250
22Khz: off
Diseqc Switch: 1.0
Committed: 1 -------You may use different port #
Legacy SW: off

Echostar 6,8 --110.0W
LNB Power: on
LNB Type: Single
LNB Frequency: 11250
22Khz: off
Diseqc Switch: 1.0
Committed: 2 -------You may use a different port #
Legacy SW: off

No need to assign certain switch settings and you may setup to any ports you
like as long as they match your Committed settings! People do like using 119
committed 1, 110 committed 2, and 91 committed 3 etc...

For Dish Pro type lnb's:

Echostar 7 -119.0W
LNB Power: ON
LNB Type: OCS-DIP
LNB Freq: 11250
22Khz: Off
DiSEqC Switch: 1.0
Committed: 1
Legacy SW: Off

Echostar 6,8 -110.0W
LNB Power: ON
LNB Type: OCS-DIP
LNB Freq: 11250
22Khz: Off
DiSEqC Switch: 1.0
Committed: 2
Legacy SW: Off

If using 1 DP Twin or quad and no other lnb's or switch involved then you
may run one cable straight to receiver then set your dish settings as
displayed above! Make sure your switch settings and dish settings are set to
the following ports 119- Committed 1 and 110- Committed 2!

***If adding another lnb then you must run 2 lines from your Twin or Quad
lnb to a switch with the same dish settings, then your other lnb would go to
committed 3 and committed 4!*** Depending on your setup you can use a diseqc
switch, Dp21, Dp34, Dp44 switch. No matter which Dishpro Lnb assembly is
used, you may add up to a max of three dp34, Dp44 switches with a max cable
distance of 200 feet from the LNB assembly to the furthest receiver!

For Legacy Twin or Quad with no switch:

Echostar 7 -119.0W
LNB Power: ON
LNB Type: Legacy Twin LNB1----OR----Legacy Quad LNB1
LNB Freq: 11250
22Khz: Off
DiSEqC Switch: OFF
Legacy SW: Off

Echostar 6,8 -110.0W
LNB Power: ON
LNB Type: Legacy Twin LNB2----OR----Legacy Quad LNB2
LNB Freq: 11250
22Khz: Off
DiSEqC Switch: OFF
Legacy SW: Off

If running one cable straight to receiver with no switch involved then set
your dish settings as displayed above! Make sure your switch settings are
set to the following ports 119- LNB1 and 110- LNB2!

***If adding another lnb then you must run 2 lines from your lnb to a diseqc
switch then setup is the same but your other lnb would go to committed 3 and
committed 4!***

When setting your "Dish Setting" you will see a signal meter on the bottom
of the screen:

Level: [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] 94%
Quality: [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] 99%----You want your quality over 80%

Most importantly you will see an Satellite ID Banner at the top right corner
of the screen, it must match the satellite you're setting up! If it's not
matching try switching your committed settings, if it still won't match then
most likely it's not pointed to the proper satellite or you may have a
connection problem with your switch, cable, LNB, or connectors.

AUTOSCAN

1.) Menu
2.) Installation
3.) Go to Auto Scan and press ok

When in your Auto Scan sat list, you may highlight all your receivable sats
then go to the right side of the screen and highlight search type "All",
turn "Network Search On", then press "OK" to start the scan. Tis will scan
your satellites simotainisly

You may also scan 1 sat at a time, it is recommended to choose you Sat's in
order with your DiSEqC settings, first highlight your Sat that's using
DiSEqC 1, then DiSEqC 2, 3, and 4 OR choose Sats from highest to lowest. Now
go to right side of the screen and highlight search type "All", turn
"Network Search On", then press "OK" to start the scan.
Highest ---- 119, 110, 91, 82----Lowest
