Well, I'm pretty sure the guy that posted all the info knows what he's talking about but I have personally seen cards get burnt. You can see it literally with the human eye. The litte processor(the little gold thing) on the card turns a darker color and on the backside it sort of bubbles up a bit.
I used to pay for that stuff for dtv when the codes were available for that and I had a few cards and believe me...I noticed the difference. The more the card got zapped, the darker the gold would get.
So yes, in some cases, the cards do go bad.
