should i get a 3000hd?
looking to upgrade to a HD box so i been shopping around and reading lots of reviews right now from what i hear the 3khd is the way to go,and i love that it runs firefox and that its pretty much a media center pc that has FTA...but something thats holding me back is in all the reviews it says that this box is not for a noob...now im no way a noob to computers, im actually a PC tech and repiar them all day so i have very good understanding on how they work and great with trouble shooting with them...BUT i am pretty new to FTA ..i only been in it for about 2 months and only had 1 box (coolsat 7100)
so i dont know 100% on how to set them up from the ground up and still get lost sometimes reading through lyngsat ...so i just wanted some input from 3k users ...i got LOTs of PC knowledge but not LOTs of FTA knowledge..
would i be able to use this unit?
also if you guys know any good web sites that i can find it cheap pls post!! i had one guy tell me he found it for $360 but then he loged off and i have got the link .. thanks!!

Re: should i get a 3000hd?
from what I know it's a Linux box and yes it's a full PC.
I am not to familiar with the box but I've had CW for a while, and I can tell you that the support is exceptionally good, and the price for their unit is very low compared to the units of different manufactures.
If you are in this hobby to learn and experience new things, then I am sure you'll learn how to use the 3000, It's way out of my price range outwise I would have bought one myself a while back. But I am failry quick at learning new stuff and get used to them.
If you are second-guessing yourself another great HD unit more simpler to use is the SV8000.

For ease of setup the Captain8000HD that I have is the easiest box to setup..... Until recently support was bad, This week however has been the best support of all stb boxes....... Team captain is doing a great job now proving they can be at the top........ I am not saying buy the box but the box itself IS ONE OF THE BEST @ a great price for HD.... You will only get B3V HD and not DN HD with the Captain........
As for the CW3000..... I will say one thing, YOU CANT BUY A COMPUTER ALONE FOR $500.00,,,,(well maybe but not like this) this is a serious machine moving in the right direction I have 2nd generation on order but stocking them seems to be an issue during the upgrade from gen 1 to gen 2. Hopefully mine will arrive soon.....

Re: should you get a CW3000HD?
crazyjoex, The one thing that no one has told you yet is that... The CW3000HD is the ONLY HD format receiver on the market that can run a FTA format, cardshare (rom102), or cardless prog's for dn or b3v! It is essentially the only HD cardshare box, and since Dreambox has been boasting for over 2 yrs about releasing a HD format... They have yet to do so ( **** shame too) but when they do it will be the ultimate! If you want a HD box to do it all the CW3000HD is the box to get. You will need to read, read, read, and read till your eyes bleed, but since you are PC savvy you should be OK. Just be patient, and maybe read Geno's Dreambox start guide which is a good linux guide and defintely read the startups on CW. The CW & DB both use linux, and are cardshare or cardless boxes! One thing about the Dreambox is though... You can run 1- rom102 for dn & 1 for b3v since it has 2 card slots and loop up to 10 boxes off 1 card. That is a plus about the Dreambox, and everyone knows that cardshare (plastic) is the most dependable free TV going.
So just read up on DB & CW if you want to be watching TV when FTA is down every 4 or 5 days for a day or so. I hate it because I have 3 FTA's running in the house here now with a NEW VS Pro * WD 320GB HD all NIB that I haven't messed with yet because while I was waiting on the WD HD to arrive I decided to go back into plastic so the Pro is for sale!
Good Luck with whatever you buy...
Rocky

Re: should i get a 3000hd?
I am kind of wondering the same thing...I have been looking into buying an HD box (I currently have CW600P). The 3000HD seemed to be the way to go, but I am by no means an expert in FTA. I've had FTA since August, but haven't had many problems. Someone else installed the dish for me and did the original setup. I have since had to go back and rescan the satellites for channels (using 110 and 119). How much "harder" is the CW3000HD than my current CW600P? Are there step by step instructions that can be followed for setup? I really like the DVR and HD feature. Do you have to download the new keys wirelessly? or can they be downloaded with the cable like I do now with the 600? Please help!
THANKS!!!

None of the above stbs do HD, so why compair?????
The V.2 will do HD from bev 82. If your looking for DN HD most, not all is at 129 or 61.5 and thats were the Genpix Sky walker comes in. Any HD modle on the market needs some type of Turbo 8psk module | |
