How To Install Guide for the CaptiveWorks CW-3000HD
=========================================
Steps 1 to 4 are optional but **highly** recommended. Personally I was getting bootup problems when I tried using their default OS version and therefore had to re-install the OS. The process is easy and is highly recommended. It will ensure you have a newer version than the default install.
Installing the Latest version of the OS
=============================
Captiveworks CW-3000HD Update 1.0.1.13
You can try this above link first, usually works fine these days. If it works okay, omit steps 1-4 below. If you have any problems, then go through steps 1-4
-- Or --
Download the latest Recovery Image from CaptiveWorks: CW3000HD Recovery Image
Here is what I basically did here:
1. Burn the iso image using whatever burning program you might have.
2. Connect the receiver using Composite if possible or as low a resolution as possible (you can always go back and change it later). My Satellite IN cable is not yet connected at this point, but that should not make a difference. My network cable is not yet connected, either, but again I don't see that making a difference.
3. Connect a keyboard to the Receiver & Insert the CD into the DVD drive. Press F8 when the CaptiveWorks logo appears. Select the DVD Drive and press Enter. When prompted type 1 and then Enter for a system restore (2 if you want to cancel) The system will reboot after a few minutes (less than 5 Minutes) Most default settings during setup are fine. Ensure the correct time & date are entered
4. Take out the boot CD. Hit the power button on the remote to shutdown. Once turned off turn it back on. There should be no error message when booting up.
Turn the Receiver OFF again.
Installing a Hard Drive
=================
A pretty good guide with more details and pictures can be found here:
CaptiveWorks CW-3000HD Hard Drive Installation Guide
Basically:
5. Unplug the power cord and open the Receiver. Ensure the drive is set to master and is using its own cable. If using a SATA hard drive simply connect to one of the SATA connections. If using an IDE hard drive you will have to take out the DVD-Rom drive in order to get to the IDE connector. Put the cover back on and boot up.
6. To install the hard drive select the "Admin" profile. The default pin # is 1111. Select Configuration. Storage Setup. Follow the on-screen instructions. Basically, it will restart twice. Don't interrupt the process. You should see a splash screen saying that Hard Drive Install is in Progress. If you get an error message during install more than likely the cables are not connected securely. If that occurs select "OK" after the error, shut down the machine and check the cables. When done go back into the Storage Setup and re-install the hard drive.
Update the Software
================
Assuming everything is ok if you have not installed the network cable yet shutdown, connect it, and then start back up. I hope they eventually have a fix for this but the OS will not detect the change for some reason if you connect the cable while it is running. This is why we had to shut down and back up again.
7. Update to the latest version of the software. As "Admin": Updates->Download
Download the update that starts with "cw3000hd" (make sure it is highlighted in green and the press the blue button). Click OK when it reaches 100%
Go back and select Install->Local. You should see the file in question. Select it and click Install. Wait. Hopefully it should say "Update installed succesfully. Please restart system. Udpate complete".
***WAIT*** until both unpack and installed reaches 100%. The above message might show up before it hits 100%. It is not ready until you see it reach 100% Go back and restart the system. At this point it might reboot 5-6 times or some crazy amount of times.
Setting Up Satellites
================
8. Shutdown completely. Plug in the satellite connection. If using only one of the 2 DVB-S Connections connect it to the one on the right if facing the back. The one on the right (Closest to the edge) is known as the "DVB #1" connection. If your using 2 DVB-S connetions (which i havent tried yet) you can connect to both connections. This is in the default documentation provided by CaptiveWorks under Start Up.
9. Download the latest soft cam fix. For example cw3000-sc-update-03-18.tar.zip
Unzip the file as cw3000-sc-update-03-18.tar.bz2
Put the file on a memory stick and connect the memory stick to the receiver.
Install->External. Select the file from the Memory Stick (USB Sub Folder).
10. Disable un-used DVB-S Adapters: Admin->Configuration->Adapter Setup.
Personally I am using one DVB-S (out of 2) so i have the following settings:
DVB-S Adapter (Outer) Disabled
DVB-S Adapter (Interior) Disabled
External DVB-S Adapter 1 Enabled
External DVB-S Adapter 2 Disabled
If using both adapters Ensure Adapter 2 is Enabled as well.
11. Scan the satellite: Admin->Configuration->Antenna
Save your changes using the blue key
My settings using a single LNB with no DiSEqC switches:
Switch DiSEqC
No. 1 Circular *****satellite 1****
Scan: Transponder All Adapter Internal
No. 2 Circular *****satellite 2****
Scan: Transponder All Adapter Internal
Post - Installation
==============
You should be able to watch Satellite (see documentation that came with the Receiver to see where and how to use it). Autoroll might take a while as usual the first time around. CaptiveWorks seems to be pretty good about updates so far so I believe we will see a good amount of changes. The fact that it is open source as well should ensure that we see new features made by others as well. Personally I have a few ideas in mind...it will be a matter of having the time to do it.
