CW3000HD 1.0.1.4 Update Released

The 1.0.1.4 update for the CW-3000HD has been released. The highlights of this update are additional display options to allow for fill mode to expand 4:3 material to fill a 16:9 screen, sound stuttering fix for hard drive systems and scanner tweaks.

On the first restart after applying this update you will be presented with the display settings screen and the time setting screen. Please make your changes and save for both of these screens then reboot. This is to ensure that the correct time is set now that the system handles DST correctly and to make sure the new display settings are set correctly.

The display options need some explaining. In addition to the connection type and resolution that was previously there there are 3 additional options.

Aspect ratio allows you to tailor the output for the shape of your display. If you have a TV that is not wide screen you can now adjust for that and you won't have to look at tall skinny people anymore.

Fill mode is for you folks that would rather see short fat people instead of black bars on the side of the screen. Setting this to "Fill Screen" will stretch 4:3 images to fill the screen on a widescreen TV.

For those using DVI or VGA, Auto Detect Settings allows you to turn off the EDID information from your TV. EDID is a means to allow the TV to tell the CW3000HD what it's capabilities are. The video driver than takes this information into account when setting up the display. Some TVs don't do a real good job of reporting their abilities accurately which can lead to some problems. This setting allows that reporting to be disabled and can be of use for certain TVs. Most situations are best left with this enabled.

For those new to the CW Linux update process. All you need is the remote and a network connection. For the network impaired USB stick instructions will follow.

1. Enter the Admin profile from the main screen.

2. Enter the pin (1111 is the default)

3. Highlight updates and press enter.

4. Highlight download and press enter.

5. Make sure the server is the Official CW3000HD Updates.

6. Highlight Check and press enter.

7. You will see 2 entries in the lower boxes. Highlight cw3000hd and press enter.

8. Highlight the cw3000hd-update 1.0.1.4.tar.bz2 file and press the blue button to download.

9. Press the blue button when the download completes.

10. Press the back button to exit the download screen.

11. Highlight Install and press enter.

12. Highlight local on the file screen and press enter.

13. Highlight the cw3000hd-update-1.0.1.4.tar.bz2 file and press the blue button to install.

14. You will see 2 status bars and some messages displayed as the update is installed. Once the "Update Installed Successfully" message is displayed, press the blue button to exit

15. Back all the way out to the main screen and press the power button. Press the yellow button to restart the system.

16. Update complete.

For those without a network connection this update will remove the long wait at startup also. to update your system you will need a usb stick.

1. You can download the update with your computer from here and saving the file cw3000hd-update-1.0.1.4.tar.bz2 to your computer.

2. Copy the cw3000hd-update-1.0.1.1.3.tar.bz2 file to a usb stick.

3. Take the USB stick to the CW-3000HD and insert it into one of the front USB ports. (There is a flip up door on the front of the unit covering the ports. Press on the triangle of dots to open the door.)

4. Enter the Admin profile from the main screen.

5. Enter the pin (1111 is the default)

6. Highlight updates and press enter.

7. Highlight Install and press enter.

8. Highlight external on the file screen and press enter.

9. Highlight the cw3000hd-update-1.0.1.4.tar.bz2 file and press the blue button to install.

10. You will see 2 status bars and some messages displayed as the update is installed. Once the "Update Installed Successfully" message is displayed, press the blue button to exit

11. Back all the way out to the main screen and press the power button. Press the yellow button to restart the system.

12. Update complete.
