Trying to load bin via R232
Hello, I am trying to load the bin using the cable rather than the USB itself seeing how I heard it works this way.
When I turn my box on it says L1.00 then boots to the channel system so I cannot upload the file.
Any help?
Thanks

Re: Trying to load bin via R232
get the loader program from here and also the latest bin. put the bin in the same file area as the loader program. set your loader program to use the serial port on your pc, "com 1 maybe". next select the bin file to load via the loader program, when it starts, turn on the receiver, it should begin to load.

Re: Trying to load bin via R232
are you using regular serial rs232 cable or null cable. you'll probably need a null cable if thats not the one that came with your receiver

I'm 99% sure this is the one that came with the box.
But the problem is: when I turn on my reciever it says: L1.00, not sure what that is

Re: Trying to load bin via R232
1) Download and unzip both the ( COOLSATxx00_FAC_Vo1 cuurent) and NorW latest release
2) Connect your receiver to your computer using your RS232 cable.
3) Open your Coolsat 7000 Loader click the file button and load your Coolsat_xx00_Fac_Vo current into your loader
4) Put your mouse over the download button and as soon as you turn the Back power switch on your receiver ON click the download button
If your to slow it will NOT load and you must Repeat this step !
5)When your receiver reboots itself Or you see this ---- turn off the back switch and reconnect it to your TV then click Menu on your remote and then go to Installation screen and select SYSTEM RECOVERY and click YES to (System restore to Factory Default) when the factory reset is finished set the Language of choice and then set your time zone. After setting the time zone the receiver will ask if you want to Auto detect your satellites and switch settings. Say Yes at this time !
6. In most cases your coolsat will detect the correct settings and download the channels for you. If it doesnt you will have to manually enter your sat settings and scan.
just skip the factroy file pqrt and go straight to the bin

Re: Trying to load bin via R232
If you go to the coolsat website you will see that a straight rs232 cable is needed for the CS7000, the cable they sent with it is a null cable. The null cable will not work, it has to be a straight through (pin1 to pin1, etc.) for the stb to get the file from the loader.

Re: Trying to load bin via R232
be sure to do the pc to cable test that is in a sticky in the faq's. It is real clear. It will tell you if you are good from the pc to the business end of the cable you are about to put in the receiver.
After you do this test. It doesn't take long. Then when you are ready with the loader. The STB should NOT be connected to the TV. Have the mouse hovering over the DOWNLOAD key on the loader. With one finger on the toggle and one on the mouse, toggle/click then a 1/2 of a New York second beat then mouse/click. You should be downloading.
Do that pc port and cable test. you'll have confidence when you get to the loader or you'll know why it screwed up.
good luck.

When you see the L 100 on the front display...this is identifying the FACTORY FILE bin. (which works like an operating system)
This is normal to see just after you do a reset...because it wipes everything off. (channels & settings)
As soon as you power up the unit...it will show L 100 then it will display the last channels it was set for, or, it will display 0000. (after a reset)
The receiver must be OFF & RS-232 Serial Data Cable connected to rear.
Now open loader (being sure to unzip both loader & bin file prior)
Browse your documents for the current working bin file...select it...verify it (in window)...then hit Download...then turn power ON receiver. (to begin upload)...wait until you see the L 100 displayed...then the last channels viewed or 0000.*
* (when you see 0000 on display...this means it is time to scan for channels)
If you want to see a guide to use loader...look for "CoolSat for Dummies" file (no joke) this is the best guide with photos.

Re: Trying to load bin via R232
It almost worked, thanks for the clarification as to the L1.00 problem.
So I browsed to the file you said to (195). I hit download then turned on the back switch. It shows 0% and it says "Waiting for Request. Reset SetTop Box."
I'm 90% sure I have the correct wire, it is a RS232 cable, it connects to the CS and my computer fine....can someone give me a pic of the wire itself?
Thanks for helping, almost there.
