Discuss the Neusat to Captain conversion here

some info c/p:

So far it has scanned in the nimiq birds without a hitch. Having some problems getting the channels on dn, but may be my motor needs a nudge. I do get some of the channels just not all.

Again a debt of gratitude goes out to mississippiman for giving me the info that allows us to do this.

Please use the files at your own risk, as we do not know what we will need to do to convert back.

It should be able to be converted back by reversing the hex editing I did, but not for sure. They need to use AYOR, because I have not tried to convert back. Hopefully it will be as easy as converting was.

Works great with one bug (unit will reboot on it's own every once in a while)

i dunno if nuesat and or captain coding teams will see eye to eye with conversions or what.just passing along whats being done.

The debt of gratitude should go to me but whatever. I came up with this one late last night. As for the freeze reboot syndrome I can remember a few neusat original bins doing the same thing. The reson I investigated this jtag-less conversion was the very same company built the two boxes. all it is is a format change not a real convertion. It had to be done in two steps to make it smooth and starting with the very smallest neusat file the was written helped a great deal (#10). I report still up and going on both providers. As for a reverse file just load a regular neusat on it its that simple. I really can't explain that one but you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. I do believe that it scans quicker and better than the neusat ever did but everything else like picture quality and slightly sluggish channel chaging are exactly the same. I also think there is a slight volume problem on a few selected channels. All in all better than the receiver sitting under my bed.

hey guys,
I loaded the modified patch 10, forced it, then tried to load the latest captain and I get a message that is an unknown file and cannot be uploaded. Should I factory reset before i load captian file or after?

Can anyone help me with this conversion? Im getting an error message when I try to upload the captain file

First of all thanks for this goes to mississippiman who gave me the info to begin with. Like I said when we got info it would be posted. I had to use a hex editor to edit a file, but I will give you the file already done. Easy to do....

1. Load the neuhd_patch0010.bin by USB, it will ask if you want to force it, say YES This file has been MODIFIED, it is NOT the regular patch10

You now have a Captain HD

2. Load the latest Captain hd file, do a factory reset, set time and all your settings and scan. It took about 6 minutes to roll on 82.

thanks for the reply. I did this, however when i go to download the captain file it states the "unknown file cannot be downloaded".

its odd they didn't add in the instructions that you need to use the captain loader.

ok i'm almost there. I connected the loader, opened the port, and selected file for download, But nothing happens for a long time...All is see is the bin i'm downloading in the status bar.

hmmm.it should be very easy.
you need to make sure you have the ALTERED neusat patch.
the one thats in the neusat section as a sticky.
and follow all the directions posted with the file.
then you just need to know how to run the loader and be sure your using a null modem cable.
about all i can think of.don't have one to help ya out.should be very simple tho,this i know.

I did the same thing and now I can't load through the stb usb port. Also, when I run the neusat or captain loader neither one does anything at all. All I can see is the bin that I loaded on the status bar but I let it sit there for over 30 minutes and it did not change. My stb shows all 0000 on the display. I tried turning it off by disconnecing the elect. cable, different ways but no cigar. I loaded the 10 bin through the stb usb port. Maybe that's where I screwed up? I hope I didn't kill my box. Course it has been sitting for months without doing anythins. How do I get it to take the bins again. I am using the same cable I use to load files on a converted 2500a, I think it's the right cable? If someone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

I have a neusat 9k which I tried to convert to a captain. I believe I followed the basic instructions but I must have got a step mixed up. When I did a factory reset, the front display went to all 0000 and I now can't upload through the usb port or through the cable. It does show "boot" on the display when it starts up, but then it goes to all 0000 and will not change. I tried the captain loader and neusat loader and neither one seems to do anything. I will select the loader then the bin file, with the box disconnected and then turn on the box but the loader will only show the bin I selected on the status bar and does not change at all let sit for an hour or so but the status bar did not change and the front display on the stb was still 0000.
Did I fubar the box??

I got the 10.bin file in. Wom't load any captian bin's Either says "wrong model number" when using serial cab;e or "unknown file type" when using usb.

I have basically the same issue except I can still change channels. I'm gonna try a factory reset and try again. But it seems like i just cant get the captain loader to load anything!!!
