hey guys, heres someones results with the captain dongle!
c/p from user "big i" at another site, thought id pass along for you:
Captain Dongle up on Captain 7000!
Well ... I finally got my dongle!! Cheers to the Captain Dongle team for making that happen!!
And like a fat kid in a candy factory, I spent the rest of what was left of my evening, trying to setup the Captain Dongle.
First I tried setting it up on my Captain 8000HD (which is my main viewing receiver). I followed FL's instructions with respect to prepping and flashing the bins for the receiver and when it was time to plug everything in I used a CUSTOM CREATED 50' Ethernet Cable. My router is on the 3rd floor so before I ran the wires in the wall I wanted to make sure my wire was working. Long story short ... I got NO Connection. Even though I got the green light by the RJ45 port flashing away ... the light on the front of the dongle remained amber/red. Tried testing both with DHCP and Static IP connection - nada!
So, I took the Dongle and brought it upstairs to the Captain 7000 which is in the same room as my router. Followed FL's instructions again ... but this time when it was time to connect all the cables I used a pre-bought 6' Ethernet cable (one that I had nothing to do with the crimping of the ends) ... and voila it worked like a charm!! Green light at the back by the RJ45 port and Green Light on the front of the dongle!
I'm still checking what channels are there vs not there (all the ones I typically watch are coming in marvelously!)... but DN & B3V coming in with PPVs, XXX and other fave channels like VH1, DEJA VU, etc. are coming in wide open!
Each time I change the channel, it takes about 2 seconds to sync in (but without the "Scrambled" message). From what I understand this is identical to the peformance of the NFusion STB.
I got excited when I unplugged the ethernet cable and video was still going ... but after a bit (~1 mins) ... the video froze and went black. Constant ethernet is a definite must!
The Weather feature is great as well ... looking forward to my locals coming in ... but for now I can see current and 3 day forecasts for most of Europe and the Middle East!!
Tomorrow I'm off to buy some longer lengths (50' & 100') of pre-made ethernet cable, so I can test the Captain 7100 and the Captain 8000HD STBs I also have!
Hats off to the Captain Team ... once I get everything going I'm gonna wonder if I will ever switch back from IKS?!?!?

Re: hey guys, heres someones results with the captain dongle!
Wow only a two second blackout on channel changes.Sweeeet i was worried about this , that is about two seconds faster than the nfusion and I can live happily with that. I am starting to get really excited about this box "7100 usb" .Also doesn't the dongle also include a few games that are not standard with the box? I seen the post about all the aditional channels they have got up already.I am glad I didn't wait any longer these are gonna be hard to keep on the shelves.Where ya at fedex....

Not fair I just set up my 7100 usb, now I have to go get the IKS. Not mad at the 7100usb at all, very friendly. Thanks for the advise in getting that one. Hope they go wireless soon...
BTW, love the games, what a cool idea that was. Keep fighting with my son cause he wants to play games and I want to watch tv

Re: hey guys, heres someones results with the captain dongle!
well you don't have to get the dongle.you can just use it as is.
its just with the dongle hooked up and running iks, well file support doesn't match it for up time no matter how good it is lol.
but file support is still just fine buddy.
