I have a Dish 500 set-up and need help.
I have had some trouble getting 110 & 119 birds, but hope to get that resolved.
My question is, before I go through the trouble of using the 500 LNB's (which I understand has a built in SW21 switch) with my Captain 7100USB, will this LNB system give me problems when I hook it up to my Chieta switch?
Secondly, do I only need to have one coax connection from my 500, or two - One for 110 & one for 119 (I read on some other post that you only need one...doesn't really make much sense to me) or do I need to replace my 500 with two individual LNB's to ensure proper switch functionality. Would appreciate any help or explanation on this topic before I tackle it.
Thirdly, is it feasible to hook up 82 & 91 to a SW21 along with 110 & 119 to another SW21 and connect the two SW21's to a Chieta 4 port switch.
Can anyone tell me if this configuration works...Anyone running this set-up today.
Many thanks guys & gals!
Prot

Hey Prot, follow jc's info. Don't try to make this hard. Just run the one cable from LNB to receiver and put your settings in, find 119 first and 110 will be a tweek away if that far. That is it

Re: I have a Dish 500 set-up and need help.
try to install a legacy twin(dish 500) with a 2500a last weekend and could not to get the swiching to work right no matter the 4 dozen settings i tried, was really erratic. don't know if i did something wrong or just the match between the box and dish. had a couple standard lnbs laying around mounted them in the 500 mount with diseqc and was working perfect within 10 minutes compared to hours of messing with legacy. my suggestion is to run seperates mounted on twin arm. if it is a dish pro the you are probably good to go

Hey Basscat02,
Appreciate the help from everyone.
One question with my DishPro Twin (Big Fat LNB - 2 outputs total), once I get bird 119 on one line do I still need to find bird 110 on the second line in order to get both?
(I'm assuming the answer is yes).
I can find both 110 & 119 on their own but having lots of trouble finding them at once. Any suggestions?

Did you set your settings to show 119 to port 1 and 110 to port 2. This way the STB knows how to distinguish each sat by setting...When you get this set, you should be good to go...

Re: I have a Dish 500 set-up and need help.
Again, it is easier than you think. 119 and 110 are. on the same post, so a cable from one post to your receiver will bring you both sats. The 2 post design is if you want to watch 2 receivers at one time. jc has your settings for the diseq1.0 settings of each sat.

JC7257,
I have not yet fired up my Captain. I was using a Charlie IRD to find the bird's.
So you are telling me that I don't need to locate bird 110 since I found 119 already. 110 is automatically pulled in by the Captain?
And the second coax connection on my Dish Pro twin could be used for a second Captain IRD to get both the 110 & 119 birds.
Just want to make sure I am understanding you correctly....never used a Dish Pro twin LNB before.
Thanks again.

Yea, pretty much. Once you have 119, 110 is at most a hair tweek away or a hair skew away.

Re: I have a Dish 500 set-up and need help.
So guys are you suggesting that I don't need to worry about finding 110, since I have found 119? Sorry, don't mean to sound dense on this just not sure based on what Basscat02' response was.
I currently have the skew on the dish at 80 and elevation at 28.
Please advise if truly need to further tweek my dish.
Thanks again.

Looks like the skew adjustment is quite a bit off my current position.
Using Dishpointer it's teling me the skew mark is 59.
I'll give it a try.

Re: I have a Dish 500 set-up and need help.
Hey Prot, when you get 119, just have someone standing by your tv who can see your readings, put sat selection on 110 and put in correct settings. Slowly move your dish toward the east and have the other person report. Do this slowly and slight movements until your 110 signal is 70% or better. Scan your channels

Re: I have a Dish 500 set-up and need help.
OK here's what I found...
In the "Dish Settings" screen I select each of the sats and ensured the correct settings were entered.
110
DishPro
Port1
11250
12239
22 kHz - off
Network - off
Search - Quick
Leg. - off
119
DishPro
Port4
11250
12224
22 kHz - off
Network - off
Search - Quick
Leg. - off
Did a Auto Scan and got Serach Failed on 110. On 119 it scanned a number of channels.
When I tried to look at the signal strength on either 110 or 119 it was not displaying the bars. I then went to the "Signal Settings" screen and I could see both the signal strength and quality for 119 sat.
I'm a bit confused, why did it not show me the signal strength when I was in the "Dish Settings" screen? I tried selecting and deselecting each bird to see if it would show me the signal.
I'm not quite sure now what screen to use to find 110 or what the steps I need to take to display a reliable signal screen.
I'm not sure if this is a Captain only problem or maybe it's just me not knowing how to step through this.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: I have a Dish 500 set-up and need help.
Turns out that when your in the "Dish Settings" screen and you select the sat you want you allways need to do a "Auto Port" in order to get the Strength & Quality bars. (learned something new, was wondering why these dispeared when I went select the 110).
So I guess I'm still not getting 110. I'm assuming when I find 110 and do "Auto Port" on both Sats that they will both appear in the "Signal Status" screen.

Re: I have a Dish 500 set-up and need help.
Your seetings for 110 are:
LNB Type...DP or OCS
LNB Freq....11250
Diseq1.0...Port 2
TP Freq....11224
For 119:
LNB Type...DP or OCS
LNB Freq....11250
Diseq1.0...Port 1
TP Freq....12239
Put 119 in your sat selection, put in the above settings, then scan
Put 110 in your sat selection, put in above settings then scan
