Why are there keys if you can get bins?

I guess I don't quite get the reason there are key posts if you can get a bin for your particular receiver.

Can you get a program to make bins for your receiver?

Or is there some kind of advantage over loading keys vs bins.

I seen posts on how to enter them manually and it got me curious.

As you can tell i'm a total newbie.

You will not need to load keys, all receivers have "autoRoll" at the present the keys are being changed fairly often, sometimes the receiver will show scranmled channel or just blank, that means the keys are rolling.
You will have to have the latest bin fill downloaded to your receiver in order for it to work. You will need to do a lot of reading in the section that pertains to your receiver, before you attempt to set up.

you have me wondering now .. what box you have thats up ?

If your box has trouble autorolling you can then manually put the keys in. Hence the purpose for the keys.

Keys are needed to decode as well. Having current keys posted allows you to enter them manually if you have an ar problem, but lately it's used mostly as a reference to make sure your stb has the right ones.

Bin means you are uploading a file from your computer to receiver fix the codes.
Keys means you are inputting them into your receiver manually to decrypt the signal. Put it simply,When an ECM occurs, simply updating the bin file won't necessarily get me up and running again. There are the following choices:
- update STB with latest Bin file (depending on update, that's all that's required)
- update STB with latest Bin file & manually enter new Keys
- No Bin update required, enter new Keys only.

how do you view your keys on your stb?

By the way my box that is up is a cs7100

Press 8282 on the remote or the mute button then exit might work.
