I searched all over for a solution and never found one to the error message "Target not connect or target is error status!". This appeared on the loader for my Traxis DBS3500 but it seems to affect other TrueFTA receivers as well. Since I couldn't find where anyone had the solution and I figured it out myself, I thought I would post this in case anyone else ever has this problem.

This is what worked for me:
1. Turn back-switch of the receiver off.
2. Start the loader.
3. Click "connect" on the loader
4. While the loader is still trying to sync with the receiver (before the error message), turn the back-switch of the receiver on.
5. The loader will finish syncing as it's supposed to.

Every time a file is loaded to the receiver, I have to do the same procedure to get the loader to work again. Moving files from the receiver to the PC doesn't seem to "break" the loader, though.
