Help with hooking up a Multi-switch to DTV DVR

We have DTV with 4 outputs hooked to 4 tvs. One of the tvs is a DTV DVR. The problem is while taping you have to watch what you are taping. We were told that we could purchase a 4 way multi-switch to split the line so that we could watch one channel and tape another. First of all, is that possible? secondly, if so, we aren't sure how to go about hooking it up correctly. We purchased a Skywalker Communications 4-way multi-switch Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

yes..you need a second coax run from the switch to the dtv rcvr..
which dtv rcvr do you have..R15, R22 sdtv rcrvs have 2 tuners to allow simultaneous recording one channel and viewing on a 2nd channel or recording 2 channels while watching a recorded program..it works been there done that..

Re: Help with hooking up a Multi-switch to DTV DVR

You are going need a 4x8 switch.Thats 4 lines in from the LNB and 8 lines out. That way you can connect 1 line to each of you standard tvs and 2 lines to your dvr. OR, you can purchase a 6x8, that 4 lines in(Do not use the flex ports to connect your lines in) that in turn will give you 8 outputs to work with. The DVR MUST have 2 inputs to it or you can not record on 1 channel and watch tv on the other.Hope this helps...

Re: Help with hooking up a Multi-switch to DTV DVR

We have an R15. So.. I need a little visual. Can I use the switch I have? The top lines on the switch reads: DC in LNB/18V ANT IN LNB/13V the bottom is Rx1, Rx2, Rx3, & Rx4.

Since there are 4 lines coming out of the dish to 4 different recivers, the only line I would need to be concerned with is the line going to the DVR... correct? That line I would connect the switch to and run 2 coax lines to the back of the DVR reciever?

If that the case -- I would need to know what coax lines get connected to what on the switch. Thanks!

Re: Help with hooking up a Multi-switch to DTV DVR

Hello TD,

If you are using a 4x4 switch and you have 3 standard receivers and a DVR. Then you are going to need a switch that has 5 outputs as in the 4x8 or the 6x8. The switch that you have is a 4x4 that you can run 4 lines out of. So if you do not want to use 1 of your standard receivers, then you are good to go. You can connect the 4 lines from your lnb to the 4x4. Use 1 dual line to one side of the switch and the other dual to the other side, that way you will be good to go!

Re: Help with hooking up a Multi-switch to DTV DVR

OK... I want to use all recievers. So I purchase a 6x8. I have to run the 4 lines from the dish into the switch? then run the other lines out to the recievers which includes 2 lines to the DVR? so I would have 5 lines going out of the switch to the tvs?
