performance will increase with internal, BUT... heating problem will also show up due to HDD generating heat & FTA.
another issue is compatibility issues, as external HDD could be any size, but internal HDD has to be coded so it can work that would be limit to specific size & make/model.

With all this, most would rather have external HDD.
