pretty hard to beat the new sonicview 360's.
take a look at that new one from captiveworks too.the ultima.reason why is because this is the first and only plug and play stb that records directly to mpeg.
i dunno what it has for a hardware mpeg2 decoder yet,nor if it have bit rate settings.but take a look at it too.cus that means you don't have to mess with conversions to get files burnt to dvd anymore.
now if you want a great dual tuner,the sv elite is the way to go.


oh and for a low cost one for your kids,grab them a cw 700 (like right around hundred bucks) or if you want higher quality,for a little bit more,grab the new viewsat ultra lite.either of those will do trick for 'em.nice basic stbs.

there's other good choices too.but there's a few to consider.

p.s. your kids might enjoy that ultima actually.it plays old retro nes games.
comes with 2 joypads.
that might help too.
but might cost a bit more than your after for their room or whatever.
few stbs there to check into anyway.
