Re: A cheap, but reliable stb?
My choice - Solaris - $ 160.00 canadian - Less in US - most always up - no fooling around - pays for itself in 2 months vs a sub !!
But it is IKS - so there is homework to be done before a purchase is made - as with everything there are risks.

Re: A cheap, but reliable stb?
the neosat 2000 is going really cheap these days ...
oh.. I'm sorry you said you wanted a reliable stb....lol..my mistake..
your best bet would be a sonicview or viewsat receiver for support and reliability..
there might be a couple of others out there but these are likely the 2 best at the moment..

Re: A cheap, but reliable stb?
Here are my choices in order of merit considering price factor.
1. Sonicview Elite
2. Viewsat Ultra
3. Captive Works 700S or 800S
Of the above the Sonicview and the CW800S can allso be used as recorders.
You will be able to use a USB external Hard drive to record movies/programs.

Re: A cheap, but reliable stb?
CW700 going for anywhere to 80-90 dollars now with free s&h from some dealers. Bit of advice though...I wouldn't buy an stb off of fleabay...you never know iit could be a clone. Get it from a reputable dealer. Check one of our sponsors here.

Re: A cheap, but reliable stb?
Bought my sonic view 360 premier in january for $129 and I haven't been down yet!
To me(hindsight) it was worth the extra $30 to have only programmed it once
