Re: Best FTA Box
I own a nova (nfusion) and as of today am still getting a crap load of bev channels.
The only thing that is currently turnng my thoughts away from nfusion is the (so far) lack of support and of course the rumor mill that I will have to add a solaris e card to upgrade my box.
My thoughts are exactly this...
with the new encryption stand alone boxes seem to be at the bottom of the barrel as of today I know of at least 2 Viewsonics that have been disconnected because of no channels.
IKS seems to be the way(internet sharing) which put me in mind, that if I have to put out, 80 buck for a e card and 60 for delivery I might as well buy another reciever cause I wont do business with a company that has deserted it's customers because of their "clone" problems.
I bought from a authorized dealer and really dont believe the "clone theory", I think its a myth to drive business to certain dealers who jacked their prices.
My thought is simple..gotta go with what you know!
IKS units share one thing in common....great up time, very little down time.
Need a comparism of any and all IKS units currently out there..
K-box....sonicview and nfusion....
Is there anybody currently testing all three?

Re: Best FTA Box
right now Nf is the leader in the iks field. Sonicview ihub has a very long way to go. They have a lot of issues with the server, and it's been down most of the time the past few days.

Re: Best FTA Box
I can def understand you feeling towards the lack of suppot of the nova. I spent the 79.99 for the ethernet card...and unfortunetly I had to pay nothing for the shipping and it took less than 48 hrs to arive. to my knowledge poweredbynfusion.com was the only site selling the factory part and is currenly massively back ordered.
If I were you and wanted to save up for a card or if there will ever be nova support, enjoy ur bev until we get more programming open (ie. ppv, sports, XXX), cause currently we only have approx 51 channels up including some movie channels.
Hope this helps ease you mind for a while

Re: Best FTA Box
It's not a clone issue, it's an IKS security issue with the Nova boxes, which were not made by Nfusion but by another STB maker. Nfusion bought those boxes, put their name on them and made them work with IKS a few years ago.
Nfusion eventually made their own boxes such as the Solaris, Phoenix and the HD with the upgraded security chip.
You can upgrade your Nova for $80.00 or spend 3x that for a new SD box + "Dongle" or "Hub"
There really isn't much difference then others charging $80-$100 for a "Dongle" or "Hub" to make their box work and work securely with an IKS type connection then there is adding an upgraded ethernet port to your Nova.
Nfusion is basically requiring Nova owners to do the same, although nothing official yet if they will or will not continue to support the Nova.
There are a lot of STB owners out there who don't have the option of spending a mere $80.00 to make their box compatible work, so I guess it all depends how you look at things.
Again, no official word from the coders if they've been able to resolve the issue with the Nova and as far as I know, it still gets many B3V channels.
No box is supported forever and having to buy a new STB every couple of years or so is to be expected as the technology and encryption methods change.
If a standalone fix for N3 ever comes out, it will likely take some fast hardware to make it work.
The future of MPEG2/SD boxes is somewhat limited anyways.
I would wait for official word from the coders and if you have to spend $80.00 to make your Nova work with N3, then that's the way it goes.
It certainly is a better option then spending 3x as much for another box + dongle/hub.

I don't think they are the leaders anymore...The Kbox products are doing quite well with the internet based solution...and have had only success so far. The Ihub, is still in the infant stage, took nfusion and kbox a long time to get where they are...just give the sonicview people time...people owe them that much, considering the huge amount of time it was up before the N3 switch.

I agree with you. I was just trying to let him know that the Ihub has work to be done on it still.

My bad...i was only directing the first part of my response too you. The Sonicview part was in reaction to all the people now unhappy and looking for other boxes...
