SV 8000HD Buy or Wait
Hi guys,
I'm thinking of going with the IHUB and a SV8000hd; the reason i ask whether to buy is this; is after it's all a 2007 designed machine......Does anyone know if SonicView is working on coming up with a new hd receiver?
Hate to spend the $$ and next week a new version is out.
My ViewSat Max i bought in Feb...looks good but is an expensive non working piece of Table art.
Or if there's another HD unit with IKS that I should consider please chime in.
Thanking everyone in advance.
ADADSS Rocks!

Re: SV 8000HD Buy or Wait
wait it out....whats the big rush?....get a sub for now and give it some time....that "table art" could become very useful....just give it some time....
unless you have an endless money supply....or you are getting the SV VERY cheap, then wait it out....
nobody should be buying any receivers right now....unless they plan on using them for true FTA....
you should also be seriously considering the risks of IKS receivers before you just jump into the water....

Re: SV 8000HD Buy or Wait
I bought a sv800 in January. You should be very comutor literate! I had finaly gotten mine working then the cooling fan stopped. It cost me another $30. shipping and $50. for them to fix and return it to me. Now I learn I have to spend another $99. for an I hub an possibly risk getting nabbed by DN!! I would not buy this unit again, I have better things to do with my time any money! This is my opinion.

The only other IKS HD box is the NFusion HD.

Re: SV 8000HD Buy or Wait
I agree with OZ, wait it outt, just another few weeks and see what happens. Rumors of SV pulling out, nFusion does not have stand alone capability, only IKS, rumors of viewsat that something is in the works, despite The viewsat "family" just being arrested, Neosat says something is in the works, numerous other things going. I would wait and see where the ball lands

Re: SV 8000HD Buy or Wait
long time no see "a sweet fine as" its good to hear from you again
The sv8000 is a great stand up receiver. I've been enjoying mine since they were first released by Sonicview and have not experienced a single problem with it so far. It has not missed a beat and just keeps ticking along. The support for this receiver has far exceeded its expectations from day one and with the introduction recently of the iHub it just keeps getting better .. Another good thing is their prices have come down since their release and some good package deals with the iHub can be found..
you have 2 choices here..wait and see what happens or go and purchase one now.
Enjoy!

I agree with you bige, as far as the fan goes that a mild inconvenience and an easy fix, my is quite as can be, you could take the fan out and look at the fan info on the fan and order a better fan, or there is a modification to use a different fan.

Re: SV 8000HD Buy or Wait
Only my personal opinion. Go with the NFusionHD. They have been doing IKS for the longest time and they have been very successful. Right now working great on Bev and DN and newer channels being added to DN daily with no freezing.

Re: SV 8000HD Buy or Wait
The SV8k is a great box. I don't mind the fan noise and that is a minor issue compared to the capabilities and picture quality of the SV8k. If you do get one, get a 31" or larger dish and a motor. There's more out there than DN and BEV. Check out what deals are out there for any STB with good blind scanning capabilities. Everyone has their favorites and you can find good and bad things about any of the STBs out there. Kind of like talking cars, everyone has their preference.

Re: SV 8000HD Buy or Wait
Im not as experieced as some of these FTA Pro's but do you want to put more and more money into a system that already cost you about $400.. I like to do modifications too but at that price I should get a quite fan. What are you guys running for a bin file? Does the charlie Blackout still work?

Re: SV 8000HD Buy or Wait
A newer box released wouldn't make the 8000 any less of a machine. everyone seems to love it that has one. I have a 360p and i'm considering the purchase of 8000hd for my new LCD, move the 360 into the bedroom. I bought the 360 in Jan, knowing that N3 was on the horizon, i bought the Hub knowing the beta might be a flop.
my choice in SV has never dissapointed me, and i'll probably stop FTA before i ever buy another brand.
Familiarize yourself with the risks of IKS...
Familiarize yourself with the Rumors floating about...
IMO even if coder support and IKS support goes away, they are still some of the best fta boxes on the market.

Re: SV 8000HD Buy or Wait
Thanks all for writing....Think I'll wait; do furthur research on the risks of IKS.
Speaking of risks; it seems to me I would have some plausable deniability of "just cause I logged into their router" doesn't mean that I either intended to xxxxxx and or that I did xxxxxx. That I guese is a choice I'll make down the line.
Anyway I like the comment of purchasing a larger dish and motor and scan some other sats... just to see whats out there.
Thanks again guys.
