Help from those w/SV 8000 & Nfusion HD

This section doesn't look very busy (I didn't even know it was here) so I wanted to start a thread for some current information.

I currently have 3 SV 8000HD's in three different rooms. I'm tired of waiting around as SV hasn't added a single useful channel in months now. I'm considering jumping ship and was considering trying an Nfusion before IKS was even required because I heard good things. Now that they appear to have more than a leg up on SV and have many many more channels I'm thinking about buying anywhere from 1 to 3 of their HD receivers. For starters, which one do I want? I see Phoenix, Nuvenio, HD and a few others and am confused by what is what. I want HD with the ability to PVR and whatever their latest box is and whichever works the best. I think the Nuvenio is what I want but read something about it being discontinued so maybe I'm wrong?

Now, a few questions on the differences between the Nfusion and SV stuff. For starters, has anyone used the network to save or play movies as advertised? SV marketed the iHub as the ability to stream media within a home network but I have found ZERO support on this. With three locations it would be very nice to have a central location that I record to and stream from. In stead I have three 1TB drives at each location and it's a PITA to know what programs I have saved at what location. If we're in the theater it seems the movie or shows we wanted to watch are up in the living room or vice versa. I would really like to take advantage of the network capability if this is possible. Also, I download movies on my PC and it would be nice to convert them to whatever format the receivers need to see and use them as a front end device for streaming. I also read that the PQ might be slightly better on the SV but am wondering how much of a difference there really is, if there is one. I've read conflicting reports as to which is more user friendly when it comes to GUI so if someone has both I would appreciate some details there.

Now in regards to equipment overall: Can I simply split the satellite feed at each location with a cheapo splitter and feed one to the SV and one to the Nfusion and toggle back and forth w/o causing any issues? Will I be overpowering the LNB with six receivers feeding power back or ?? I have Harmony remotes so it would be pretty easy to program an option for SV and an option for Nfusion. I assume I would also need two separate HDDs for each location so each box can have it's own drive to record to and play from. Again, the network functionality would really help here so I could have a single HDD for SV and one for Nfusion.

Anyway, I know I'm not the only one who has been somewhat fed up and is starting to see what the other options are so I think it's time to spark up this conversation again. So, let's have it... good or bad but first hand knowledge is ideal.

Re: Help from those w/SV 8000 & Nfusion HD

First, I have (3) SV8000HD's. I have ihub's for all of them and I've gotten them all very cheap over the past month or two buying them from forums from frustrated users. I am going to wait a few more weeks. SV is getting more channels, and I can always find something to watch. The ihub 1.8 files are in testing and are close to release

Now, your questions......

None of the nfusion boxes (AFAIK) do PVr worth a ****. There are 3 models - solaris, phoenix, and HD. Some say the phoenix has a better pic quality than the solaris....in general the phoenix has a bigger brain. The HD model has been well received by many if not all. Phoenix and solaris are SD only.

I have not used the ihub for network playback. the firmware currently doesn't exist (again, AFAIK). The GUI is a simple matter of preference between the two platforms. For what it's worth -- I use a modded xbox or home theatre PC for network playback and only use my SV receivers to playback recorded content from the USB drives on the receivers. When my USB drives get full, i move the movies onto my server and use the xbox/htpc to play them.

You can not split a satellite feed. You will need to either swap the line or run more lines (and perhaps get a multiswitch depending on your dish setup). You won't overpower the LNB.

Hope i covered everything

I bought mine a while back and also iHubs all when they were near the peak of pricing really so I'm into the investment pretty heavy at this point all things being considered. The good news is I'm pretty much past the break even point for what we were paying for a monthly subscription to Comcast cable who I hate. The thing is I keep saying what you just said.... few more weeks... and that's been a few months ago now. I'm just researching so that when I finally reach my breaking point I'm ready to buy with good information instead of just buying to buy. I really hope that what you say about the iHub being ready for an update as I'm tired of missing all the shows and movies and PPV events that I've being going w/o for over 6mos now.

I have heard nothing but good things about the HD unit and not too much negative abotu the DVR functionality. Coming from Comcrap, Douche & inDirecTV this 8000 has been shaky at best and I can't imagine something being worse so that has me concerned.

I have a PC in my office along with various laptops. I have three Xbox 360's at each of my locations as a front end but they have their limitations. Even with TVersity I have issues streaming MKV and it sounds like this is the way it's going to be for a while. Rumors said Windows 7 would stream w/o a 3rd party including MKV but I'm now reading MKV was left out. I have W7 sitting here that I'm not going to bother installing if it can't do that as it's the main reason I was upgrading all my machines. At this point I'm left with a pretty solid solution to steam most files aside from MKV. Will the 360's steam the filetype the SV captures them in or are you talking about a modified box with 3rd party codecs?

That's good info. Won't be as simple as I had hoped but then again it never is. Now that I have an antenna up and have locals OTA again and can DVR them it's a HUGE help as we can get most of what we watch between that and what few channels our SV's get. I miss FX for Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Comedy Central for The Daily Show and the Colbert Report and a couple other channels (PPV for the UFC fights) and movie channels. Mainly I miss HD because I'm a HUGE HD snob and SD drains my will to live. I would almost rather watch nothing than watch SD if it's not available in HD.

Haha... that's awesome! Those were the good old days. I still have a coupe around with the component cables but am trying to get away from those and have migrated to almost all HDMI for ease of use. Here's some pics of one of mine if you care:

Re: Help from those w/SV 8000 & Nfusion HD

The problem is I already have three 360's and don't play any of the games on PS3 and don't buy physical media so although it would be nice to stream MKV it's not worth over a grand to do so for me anyway. If I played PS3 games or owned blu-ray discs it would be a different story.
