Viewsat VS PRO & Viewsat PVR 7000

Hi there
Can someone please tell me the difference between the Viewsat VS PRO and the Viewsat PVR 7000? If there is any? I would like to purchase a PVR, but not sure which one? I already own a Viewsat Xtreme,
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Keep up the great work that you all do for us!
Thank you
Ms.Novak

The Viewsat 7000 is a dual tuner PVR unit with built in hard drive that you have to purchase to put in. The Viewsat Pro is a single tuner that can run a usb external hard drive for you recordings.

I'd like to hear more details. The VS PVR 7000 looks like a winner from the specs.

Specifically, it's the only receiver I know of with dual tuners and PVR support. I wish there were other receivers with those kind of specs.

Re: Viewsat VS PRO & Viewsat PVR 7000

shery20,is correct.
this ones bombed,sad to say.
go with the vs pro.the 7k never made it,like the pansats 5k/6k.too dang buggy, and they never got worked out.

tho only single tuner, the vs pro is the one thats going to get the main support now.
read up,and you will see many people like shery20,tell you to pass the 7k by.too buggy.

Re: Viewsat VS PRO & Viewsat PVR 7000

Thanks for the response Arboristman!

Yeah, I continue to read and be amazed that no-ones filled the niche of offering a decent dual-tuner PVR STB.

Your recommendation, Sonicview, seems to have quite a following. And I've seen a good review of the Sonicview SV-PVR 1000 by fta man over on ecoustics.com (Viewsat PVR 7000 vs Sonicview SV PVR 1000) and he warns of bad picture quality on the Viewsat PVR. Sadly, it looks like the SV-PVR 1000 may have been discontinued and I get conflicting information on different sites as to whether or not it really had two tuners.

Pansat also seems to have a good reputation and decent support. The Pansat 6000HXC looked interesting, but I prefer a system that's user-upgradable with a standard 3.5" drive and wasn't too thrilled that they didn't even include component out. Weird.

Guess I'll keep looking...the marketing drivel and constant hyperbole of these press pieces is exhausting, though. Every receiver is "technologically superior!" to all the rest and each one has the "easiest menu and quickest channel changing". *groan* I just wish I could find a dual-tuner system that could handle two satellite inputs...it's frustrating to have them boast that they have 2 tuners, only to find out that one for terrestrial broacasts and one for satellites, or one ATSC and one QPSK. *sigh*

Re: Viewsat VS PRO & Viewsat PVR 7000

And FWIW, the VS Pro looks like a nice box.

I have a Coolsat 7000PVR right now. I like the built-in 1gb for pausing live TV without requiring an attached HD. The PVR functionality is okay, but feels a bit clunky.

Wondering how it compares to the VS Pro... Off to look for good informative reviews.

Ack. I've never seen a forum where I couldn't edit my own posts.

One correction. Looks like the Sonicview SV-PVR 1000 is *not* discontinued. Here's the info at their website (Sonicview). Clean representation of their unit's abilities without all the hype. Nice.

Looks like a decent package.

Re: Viewsat VS PRO & Viewsat PVR 7000

And I can't believe there aren't that many PVR receiver allowing internal HDD instead of USB. Much more pleasant than having a usb hdd sitting on top of the set.

I guess my newly purchased 4gb USB FLash Drive will come in handy
